This lady was part of my trade for the "W" Quarters today. I've always wanted one and thought they were pretty interesting for their oddity. I mean really, who wants/needs a 20 cent piece? Either way, I'm glad to have it. I love that it has plenty of honest circulation wear. I guess some people did want/need a 20 cent piece Thanks for looking! Lets see some more 20 cent pieces. Worn to proof. Makes no difference
90 for the 20c and $860 cash which I'm going to turn into either coins for the US Type set or some US gold if I can find it. Still trying to decide
I love odd denominations with honest wear. Hard money always had a market with some one I will dig up photo of my holed 20 cent. for now another heavy circulated odd demomination
It might have been pretty handy, if we hadn't already had 80 years of 25 cent pieces. if we had gotten the 20 cent piece with the Mint Act of 1792 we would probably wonder "Who needs 25 cent pieces?". Of course with the common use of 2 reals and cut milled dollar fractions the use of the 25 cent piece instead of a 20 probably made more sense. (The Spanish did have a 1/5th dollar coin, the Pistareen, but I don't think it was much used in the American colonies and I don't think it was struck in the Spanish colonies.)
That's what I was trying to get across, without all the extra good background knowledge you just gave. We already had something in place, the 25 cent piece. Not to mention dimes and half dimes. What real good would making a 20 cent piece be? Especially since they were so similar in both design and size thus making them difficult to distinguish between.
Senator Jones from Nevada really wanted one when he proposed the legislation that authorized it. I have wanted them for years, much to my financial detriment. I now have all of them, Uncirculated and Proof, except for the rare 1876-CC.
