ANACS (small holder) graded it a MS-67.

I am still deciding...I think the coin is a 65 at best...maybe lower. It is really hard to tell given the pics, or anyones pics and grade it that high.

    It does look very clean.

I know that NGC down grades for toning, apparently ANACS market grades it for looks.

I don't really like how the toning looks (at least from those pictures) but it's probably better in hand. As for the ms67 grade... hard to tell.

That coin is ugly and overgraded; pass.

How can you make a call on whether or not its overgraded from those tiny photos? I think you got the ugly part right though.

Here is the problem...MS-65's go for $35-40...while MS 67 goes for $450+.

BIG difference, he doesn't know what to call the grade, but I don't want to lowball him...

Do you guys think $30 is a fair offer?

Sound fair for a buyer. ;)

That would be tough without seeing the coin in hand with such a big price jump from grade to grade.

I can't imagine he would be happy with that offer. Especially if the prices you quoted are accurate.
You think the coin is only an MS 65 and those usually go for 40$? And you want to offer 10 dollars less then that for a nice toned example?

I guess the toning is of the opinion, it does nothing for me.

I was simply quoting prices...actually, I think Numismedia has 65 at $40 and 67 at $530ish...I however, am hesitant to even call it a 65. I think it is a solid 64, but based on these pics, who knows.

Here is a way to clear this up. Does anybody know how accurate small ANACS holders are? I know, buy the coin, not the slab, but in this case, it i very hard.

True it is. IMO I find it quite attractive. Sorry I can't answer your small holder question. I find it bizarre the seller doesn't have a price listed at all.. No B.I.N? W/ a Best offer?

Really can't tell much from the photo's other than it is attractive. Could be anywhere in the MS range.

If it is an MS67 then I'd ask if you can look at it first or if there is a no questions asked return policy.

I like the looks of the coin, strike, luster. Almost looks like cameo on the obverse portrait. But, that toning...is probably why coin dip was invented. JMO

IMO, either ask for him to send it to you so you can look at it in hand, OR ask him to attempt larger pictures.

    NGC down grades for toning

Ngc will down grade a coin if the grader's think the toning is not tasteful in there opinion.
:rolling: But opinions like #$%holes some are big that others

I asked the guy what he paid, and he said $100..so I passed. To much of a gamble.

Even if I did get to see the coin before buying, it would still be a gamble, as my grading is iffy...lol

Myfirst impression was MS66, or better, but you really can't tell without a closeup look. I'm not too thrilled with the toning, either, but I think overall it's decent looking with great luster.
