if you continue to persist in that tone, I'll have to get Speedy there to watch over you . have an eye on a 1918 D Half Oregon MS68 CAC/ #1465 PCG
I just got to read this thread, and since when does a slab not drive the price higher? That's a completely ridiculous statement. Maybe you wouldn't pay any extra for the slab, but to say that a slabbed quarter eagle will fetch the same price as the same coin raw on the open market is just not true.
omg lehigh did you see lot 1458 126 S Oregon MS68 *****Picture perfect*******absolutely spectacular toning.
Yeah, 1465 went for $12,500 (over 5X Wholesale). That is almost unheard of for a coin that expensive. His collection was ridiculously nice. I got the catalog in the mail and drooled all over it. His collection had a separate catalog from the rest of the sale. First page was the MS67 Lafayette which sold for over $77,000.
good point - No that isn't what I said - I said those that buy the slab - I have slabbed coins in my collection, but each time the slab was just as a 2nd grade, as my thoughts are what counted. But again, the slab doesn't add value - to a knowledgeable buyer, one who can grade, and tell if the coin is real or not, it is just a holder. It is just like the coin is raw. I think you agree with me...the next quote... Your right - my mom always said never to say never - Speedy
Wow, quite the long thread here T$... but when I list coins on a BST Forum I almost always get a few offers that I consider lowball based on going retail prices (or even the going wholesale prices). Usually they are from dealers looking to make a few bucks. Usually I just say no and give them my best price. But sometimes I'll take the deal if I was in the coin very cheap and just wanted to sell quickly. For the quarter eagles you have, I do think $200 is too low. At a large show like the upcoming ANA I'd almost guarantee that you'd be able to find at least one dealer there (and probably more than that) that would pay you full greysheet bid ($245) for the PCGS slabbed AU coin since they would then mark it up 10-25% or so from there to retail prices in the $275-$300 range. I think your starting price of $285 wasn't unreasonable as if it's a PQ example in a PCGS holder, a retail buyer looking for that particular coin would probably be happy to pay your price (or close to it). If they were my coins and I thought they were strong examples in PCGS holders, I wouldn't sell for less than greysheet bid unless I really had to. And before doing that, I'd list them on eBay first at a starting price of greysheet bid + the selling fees. Done that several times with much success and typically the coins will sell for more than I expected even after fees since a lot more folks see the coin that on these BST forums. Forgot who said it earlier in the thread, but if you're dealer only pays you bluesheet for your slabbed coins I'd probably shop around for a new person to sell to... bluesheet prices are based on sight-unseen coins and are sometimes much lower than wholesale prices for sight-seen coins (greysheet) and are surely much less than the going retail prices for a decent looking coin. Would love to buy nice looking coins at the Bluesheet prices!!!!
llini: you sort of took the Dealer buys at bluesheet comment out of context. NO worries, it's a long thread.
I got $255 for it. My original ask was $285, and I worked down. My original ask for the AU55 was $265 and I got $240. Not bad, a good deal for the buyer and seller in my opinion. And I don't know if I would have much of a problem going $245 either, but I still think $200-$225 is too low, and I highly doubt a dealer would offer me that, more along the lines of what you stated ($245). But hey, I sold um' both, and in maybe about a week or so, we can talk about my MS62 Quarter Eagle
Now that we have that sorted out, what are you going to buy? You said you were selling them in order to buy something else. Come on, out with it.
Glad you held out for a more reasonable price T$. And I think both deals were good for both you and the buyers. Can't wait to see the pics of the MS62, I'm jealous you're getting that one!!!!!! But congrats on the upgrade :thumb:
Well I gave a hint with me saying MS62 quarter eagle... I found a 1909 at a, well lets say, GRRRRATE price. 1909 MS62 PCGS.... $500
Congrats, can't wait to see photos. Now with your experience I am expecting a nice original copper toned gold piece.
I'll try and take best photos that I can Hopefully all the payments clear, and I get paid right on time, so I can buy this one, it is on hold for me, so it is all good :thumb: I'm lucky to have found one at such a great price
