HAS ANYBODY TRIED GETTING COINS FROM LOOMIS/BRINKS?

Ok.... Now I've read on some older threads about this topic. I don't see a clear answer. Some say yes and they have to pay a bag fee (which I'm fine with) and some say no you have to have a commercial account.

I bring this up because my boxes have drastically been cut. I used to average 12-15 boxes a week.

I just got a call from my credit bank saying they can no longer order me boxes.

Now I'm down to 4-5 boxes a week from Chase.

And at this rate its going to take me 3 years to try to get that 500+ Nickel thread complete!

So has anybody successfully got coins from Brinks/Loomis?

There's a Brinks and a Loomis here in San Antonio and I'm thinking about calling them this week and see If I can get 5 bags of nickels that equals 10 boxes of nickels at $200 a bag.

Or maybe head downtown to the federal bank and see if they will order me 10 boxes :(

Brinks and Loomis will be in secured buildings and are quite unlikely to have an area for walk-in customers. I'd say you have nothing to lose by trying but Brinks and Loomis are likely to tell you that you can't order directly from them unless you want to pay for delivery as if you're a business with a storefront. With that you're likely to be charged quite heavily for said deliveries (which banks pay for but often overlook or waive said fees).

The "federal bank" may work with you if you have an account; depending on their policies or what the attitude of the manager is, you'll be completely at their mercy if they want to sell boxes to you. Don't be surprised if they initially tell you yes but then say they'll do so for a fee per box. Such fees, for example, may range from $7.50 for a box of cents, $10 for nickels, etc.

Did your bank say WHY they cut you off? If it's because they have to pay fees......maybe you can offer to pay the fees....

And I don't think it would be wise to have a LOOMIS delivery at your house.

My credit union has to open each box and count the rolls as well as initial their name of the rolls. They just started this new policy. I just think they dont have the time to count two boxes a week and initial 100 rolls.

Oh no! Yeah I already thought about that. I definitely dont want a big ol bank truck pulling up at my house. Might give the wrong impression!

IDK. My local bank will no longer accept CWR for any denominations . I’m in a small town and they will still accept mine but I’m only allowed to exchange my rolls, but not able to order boxes.

I guess the best thing for me is try to see if I can pay the fee. Chase already informed me they have no problem with two boxes a week from two branches. One branch gives me one.

But im going to do some calling around and see what my best option is. Like I said I dont mind paying the fees. Ill bring that up with my credit union and see if they will work with me. Figure if im paying for the boxes I dont need them counting the rolls.

That's ridiculous! If they are getting the boxes for you, they should just leave them sealed and sell them to you that way. No muss no fuss. They shouldn't be opening a customers boxes anyway.

If you are going to pay fees anyway. Check with Wells Fargo or other banks about ordering for you if you have an account (try BoA too!) then just get a new account there even if monthly fees are charged.. I opened an account at a bank because they have a coin counting machine free for customers. I use it as my dump bank. I never dump my coins where I buy my boxes.

Citibank, Chase , BoA, and Wells Fargo are commercial federal reserve banks. Any one of those should have no qualms about ordering boxes for you if you hold an account.

I do have 4 wells fargo banks within a 5 mile radius. This sounds like the best option so far.

I just looked online. The wells Fargo checking account is $10 a month unless you do $500 a month in direct deposit or keep a $500 minimum balance. Then it's free. Of course you would have to check on their box ordering policies before you opened an account, bit I don't see why they wouldn't. And one branch could be different from another.....but if you got 2 boxes a week from each branch.........

Just wish we had a CRH drive thru store. Drive up like a Burger King.

"Welcome to CRH drive thru how may I take your order?"

" Yeah I'll take 5 boxes of nickels 3 boxes of halfs and 2 boxes of pennies"

" Would you like dimes with that?"

    "No. I'm good."

    LOL!!!!!

    2) 10 buffalos, full date.
    3) 15 or more silver war nickels. Any condition.
    4) At least 1 pre 1913 nickel in every box.

What will probably end up happening is that they will eventually stop ordering boxes for you whether you pay the surcharge or not. If they do it for you, they will have to do it for other customers. The banks are not in the business of selling boxes!

At one time I was on a community bank board which has since passed through 2 or 3 ownerships, but many of the old staff are still there. Recently I was moving in/out of the vault security and I ask the old teller ( about my age or younger ) about the boxes, and he said since the covid , the companies do not want any unnecessary contact with non-bank personel ,nor the delivery people. Just to see, I asked if they had any boxes of cents, dimes, quarters ? No, but would you like a box of dollars? No! Jim

My banks have no problem ordering for me. The only caveat is that they are ordering for themselves. Obviously, they do not want to pay for the delivery of coins if they are not getting any coins themselves. I have a standing agreement with them that when they order for themselves (usually weekly, although every now and again they don't need coin) they order for me. The two weeks before Christmas they ordered me $6,000.00 in halves. They had to break it into two orders since they were limited to $3,000.00 per order, per week. In fact, I just picked up two boxes of quarters, a box of dimes, and a box of nickels yesterday.
