    "s" mint marks

Ok, from reading these, am I to understand any "s" mint mark is a proof coin and not one sent into circulation? On halves does the "s" mint mark show up above the date like the "D" and "P" marks?

Went through 15 rolls of nickels today. Found 8 '38-'59 and one easily read 1937-S buffalo.

On halves this is correct although, the bicentennial s may have had some circulation, I don't know about that one. Further complicating the situation is that it was struck in both silver and nickel clad varieties. The s mint mark is in the same place as usual. However, on cents and nickels, during the late 60s and early 70s s mint marks were produced for circulation.

ok, seriously, I want to bank where some of you guy's do... At least on the nickels part. Second box of nickels in as many weeks yielded many many circulated buffalos; however, only one (that happened to be dateless) was not stamped 1995:kewl:

    I also searched 1K in half's - 11 40% ers 1 90% (1964) and 1 1893 Columbian Exposition half in EF condition:D

Edited to add the proof's I forgot - 2 - 1972S, 1 - 1971S all three have minimal marks but are clearly circulated

Forgive me, but I have never done this (never had a need). Can anyone just walk into a bank and ask for rolls of coins, in any amount (as long as the bank has that amount in coins).
I could ask for $200 in dimes no problem, as long as they have them?

Sorry, I've lived a sheltered life

sure can. Some banks require you to have an account there, and some tellers dont really like doing it, but, they will. Now, half dollars are not something that most banks carry and you will have to work a little to find a bank willing to order them for you.

So I was at the bank today, and did not have the intention of buying any rolls today until I noticed a dull grey looking coin, it was in those clear plastic rollers that the teller was puting in her till, so I asked and the teller sold them to me and I also ended up getting some ten cent rolls as well. Turns out those dull grey coins were silver quarters a 1963 and 1965 (I live in Canada so they were Canadian coins) and not to be disapointed the I also got a 1943 and 1945 silver dimes.

But it did not end there. The teller ended up telling me about some odd coins she got, they turned out to be some Kennedy Half dollars and some Ike dollars all them were clad not rare but a little unusual in Canada. I ended up buying them, to spend when I head south.

She also had a few Canadian nickel Voyageur dollars I passed since I had so many of them, and what really surprised me a 1998 125th Anniversary of the RCMP commerative silver dollar. Almost 3/4 of an ounce of silver for a dollar.
