Error Quarter

What do you think? Any chance the darker quarter is an error.

It weighs the same as a regular quarter. It doesn’t seem to just be dirty when I look at it (but I guess it could be), and the edge looks different too.

That guess is correct.
As stated before.. It is Environmental Toning Damage to the Cupro-Nickel clad layer. The Copper toned. And the reeded edge wore away. All damage.

I metal detect. Clad coins and Nickels are affected by soil, dirt, sand, the elements and harsh chemicals.

We call the damage on your coin ED, that's environmental damage, not the other ED. LOL
