So.. I had a freight elevator inspection today at the building I maintain. It failed :(

We had to call our elevator company to shorten the new cables that were recently installed. They had to reshackle them. Part of the process is holding the cables in place with lead.
    Edit.. It is called Babbitt
They did the job and all is fixed.
One of the mechanics left a solid piece of lead that he used behind.. It weighs about 2 to 3 pounds.. How much would it be worth? :greedy:

Paddy... If you really wanted to get a value, I bet if you looked up a local fishing tackle sort of place you get get a fair price..... But I have no earthly idea what lead trades for though I am sure it ain't much.

about 96 cents a pound if you can find a buyer for it, check a gun club or someone wanting to save a buck by casting their own fishing weights.

How about a phone call back to the mechanic/company that left it behind?
If he left a $100 drill/tool behind would you just keep it?

Screw an eyelet into the top of it and use it as a fishing weight. It is probably worth about $4-$5.

Depends on whether it's spotted by OSHA or the EPA. Probably a few thousand dollars in fines if they're in a bad mood.
