I was browsing eBay and ran across this 1832 capped bust. It looks way to nice to be real. Possibly cleaned.....am I right? https://www.ebay.com/itm/1832-cappe...736421?hash=item343cf126a5:g:aF4AAOSwHtxgMtdv
Yes its either a fake,cleaned/dipped e.t.c or a silver round it appears that people have taken the bait should we try to get this one down?
I don't know enough about these coins to answer that. I did look at the sellers other auctions and all the coins seem too good to be true. A lot of IHC that look brand new. But the feedback is good with just 2 negs in the last 12 months.
Wow - I'm no expert but it surely looks very good - too good. Imagine if it WERE real? But the "5" in "50 C" doesn't look the same as some of the other examples.
I went online and looked at a few others, and I see your point about the 5 looking different. However, there was a graded one for sale at Ampex that has a different looking 5 too.
yeah......i kind of figured that.....looks WAY too good to be true. the question is ......is it a polished Fake or a polished genuine coin. All coins for sale by this seller seem to have been polished excessively. Kind of makes you wonder why there isn't more negative feedback.
Because often eBay does not post negative feedback. Infuriating when I get a bogus deal from someone and my negative feedback doesn't even appear on their page. They protect sellers.
The problem is, if it's real and it probably is, its worth something even trashed. Maybe not to any of us. But they start it at a low bid. Ultimately your own ego as a bidder is what determines the value of that coin. There's a lot of newbie bidders on eBay. They'll learn like we all did. But there will always be newbies who bid on trash. Even pay extremes for it. I have seen polished coins auction on eBay and sell for more than a hundred over what they would even be worth not cleaned. As far as bust coins, I do know there are variations in the numbers on some of the dies. Amongst other features. That's not alarming.
I went to the guys feedback omg look at the feedback. I just picked the auction where he spent 600+ on the most junk polished Morgan i have ever seen. He bought another at 300 something... for the price of a dremel you can retire on eBay...
The half is real, it is not high grade, and it has been polished. The 1851 cent he has up for sale is the same one he sold in January that got a feedback saying it was whizzed (and it is).
No coin that the U.S. mint produced in 1832 shines like that. Even the extremely rare Proof coins that the mint made would not look like that. The photos are really bad, perhaps on purpose, but you can see enough to know that coin has been ruined it if is genuine.
