Lets preface this with I know it's not worth more than a cent but I would like to understand the cause of the strike issue. How does this happen? Both Obverse and reverse seem to be struck very softly or both sides struck through heavy amount of grease. I played with lighting and angles just to give better feel of how weak the strike looks. What do you think. Thanks ~ Darryl
Just a grease clogged die, fairly common. Some collectors pay will pay a slight premium when devices are completely missing.
Thanks - - I agree that it does look neat and very odd even to the naked eye. It really surprises me how soft the strike looks on both sides on the entire coin. The depth just isn't there that you normally see. It's not just the missing devices but the overall shallow strike. Must have been a heck-of-a-lot of grease on both dies! I will keep it in a 2x2 just because.
