I heard the Mint is having problems with tarnishing on the copper cents for the upcoming 09 mint set. Anyone heard any more on this?

They are postponing shipping on the Mint Sets until they contain the problem.

I had to send my silver and clad proof sets back due to spotting on one of the cents. :( I hope the replacements are better.

    Shipping ??

I was wondering .. Who pays for shipping when coins are spotty??? I know you have to pay for shipping for the set in the first place from mint to you. Then to return to the mint do you have to pay??? Then if they ship another set are you charged shipping again???

    The rules have recently changed.

It used to be if you returned a set you paid for the return shipping. But if you knew to ask for it the Mint would reimburse you. They then paid for the shipping of the replacement set.

Under the new rules they will still pay the shipping for the replacement set but supposedly they will no longer reimburse you the shipping of the returned set. (However I am aware of at least one person who has been reimbursed for the return since the rules changed so possibly not everyone knows the new rules yet.)

it is better to delay than getting spotted coins.

This delay might actually be a good thing in the long run if it keeps mintages down. Also, hopefully they're focusing more on quality and we'll see less spotty Lincolns.

Received this from the mint today after returning my clad and silver proof sets the same day I received them due to spotting.

    2009 CLAD PROOF SET (18-COIN) 1 $29.95 $29.95 1 unit backordered. Expected to ship on 08/13/2009.
2009 SILVER PROOF SET 1 $52.95 $52.95 In stock and reserved

I am hoping the delay will produce some decent sets this time. If I read an earlier post right, I don't have to pay for shipping to me the second time around?I sure hope not! Already paid shipping for the return of the mints poor quality control.

Huge article about it in Coin World 2 weeks ago, not heard a word since then.

Probably ran out of already struck satin finish 2008 coins. By law they can't strike any more of them so they had to end the sales even though the 2009 sets aren't ready yet.
