Okay so, as you all know well, I received this from @Penny Luster during the 12 days of Coinmas giveaway, but this has been bugging me ever since and I've wanted to know if this is a die chip or something else... If it is a die chip what's its value... If it isn't a die chip, what could it possibly be? It's located right behind the eyebrow and is raised... It almost looks like a mole
by your pictures it looks like a hit or its a stain die chips don't usually add value unless if there as big as a bowling ball in the coin world.
Well, I know for sure it isn't a hit of any kind... I was thinking either a stain or a die chip... I really couldn't tell TBH... @paddyman98 do you think it's a die chip?
Honestly.. I can't tell with that picture. Maybe hold it in an angle so the light hits it a certain way to show it is raised.
I'll try when I get home... I can't take the best pictures seeing how I'm going to be using a camera from the early 2000's... But I'll try my best
I see a darker area where you mentioned the die chip, but I don't see that as a die chip. Might be, but need much better photos, as mentioned. Don't know what it is - too dark, too far away to identify.
From the picture you've provided, it appears to be something stuck on the coin. Try using a toothpick to gently prod it and see if it comes off, or even a acetone soak.
That dark area is surrounded by a lighter dark area. That looks like a stain. I see no signs of raised metal and that's what a die chip or crack would create.
It's what you can see... it is raised but the angle of the camera makes it seem that it isn't raised... could be something on it but @Penny Luster may be the only person who can absolutely answer that question if it isn't a die chip
I never noticed that spot until you pointed it out. I don't know what it could be. I kept it in a capsule.
Whelp... sadly while trying to take pictures of it, my camera fell on the coin and scratched it up... I thought since it was now scratched, it was time to experiment with proofs... cleaning it, bleaching it, etc. Just trying random things to see the effects on the coin. I'm pretty upset that I scratched the coin but there's nothing I can do about it now... Experiment time!
It's not easy but try to take a picture like this. It took me a lot of practice. This is a 2020 P Dime with the die chip in hair.
