Morgans are not my series but these coins are really nice and a couple of them are really expensive. Congrats :thumb:

Good score. I have an 1878cc as well but mine has seen more circulation than yours, I don't have a pic. I paid $90 bucks for mine at a coin shop. Can you share how much you paid for your 1878cc and your trade dollar? :hail:

I bought a gold half sovereign yesterday, I'll include a pic of a similar one b/c I haven't taken pics yet. Mine is a 1915, I'm totally happy about it as it's been on my wish list for a long time. :kewl:

Great!! I wish I knew more about silver dollars, especially about key dates. I like them and I have two of them but it's not my forte at all. With that said, I sure would like to have a trade dollar, with what I've heard I am super leery to buy one off of ebay. Plus right now I have a coupe other things on my wish list.

Hi, I am concerned as to the authenticity of the Trade Dollar. On the reverse, the dentils appear to be malformed, and actually too long. The lettering in GRAINS is not well formed and sharp. The wear is discordant; for the obverse wear to 'match' the reverse I would expect more wear in the folds of Liberty's gown in the lap. Closeup photos of the reverse dentils from 9 to 10, GRAINS, and Liberty's branch holding hand would be helpful, if you can post those.

I would say that if there are all genuine, then you did okay! Now, did you get all of the first coins plus the 1881-CC, the 1893-O and the 1892-S for $1400? If the answer is yes and they are all genuine, then you did very, very well!

It is always wise to suspect an 1889-CC but I can't really see anything that screams counterfeit but I really suspect the 1877 Trade Dollar! Even if it is a fake and the others are genuine, then you still weren't really hurt on the price!

the trade dollar was picked up in newark ohio, from a coin store that have many many years of working with coins. and before i bought this coin i was told this tradedollar is 100% and was EF-40 there are about three people in that store and each one had his own thing that he know alot of. the guy that sold the trade dollar know about trade dollars.

    Kevin,

Then you made a heck of a deal!

I have only one comment on the 1877 Trade Dollar. The grade of the coin is not EF-40 and I don't see it going above VF-30 at best. I am not trying to put your purchase down, just trying to give an honest opinion!

i threw the paper away that came with the coin and put it in a new coin holder. i think it was a grade lower then what i put at the top. but is still in very nice shape. thanks for your reply. this is what make us all better coin buyers to talk about them. the 1889-cc came from a coin dealer that has been in the coins for about 30 years. its wore a bit but is the real deal.

    Kevin,

Yeah, the 1889-CC could fetch anywhere from about $850 to $1,000! It really depends on the market at the time and who's bidding/or buying.

I recently had the chance to also pick-up an 1889-CC in similar grade but which had been cleaned for $650 from a local Coin Dealer I know. However, I did not have the funds for it and since it was a nice VAM, it would have been a nice coin to have even if it was cleaned!

1899-p (nice coin could be an MS64) about $300
1884-cc (MS but beat-up common date CC) about $160
1878-cc (appears to be EF) about $100
    1889-cc (VG-F) about $500
1877 trade dollar (coin looks real but cleaned) about $50
