Being fairly new here I haven't voted one way or another. I'll defer to the more experienced here on that. The only suggestion I might have would be to have anonymous auctions. You wouldn't know who the seller is or the ID of the bidders.

    A good base !

Most here have knowledge and know how buyers and sellers have performed on e-bay.
I think to tell the truth ( Yes that is still done ) would make a good place to make purchases. We could not compete with dealers, but we probably know a fair price.
The owner of the site owns the rights of operation and all sales, if contested ,would first be worked out between buyer and seller. The final mediation would be to the site owner.
If members in good standing are dealers then let them bid or sell a limited number of items until we see if the server can handle the load.

DT, I appreciate your feeling of wanting to leave the "vote" to members who have been around CT longer than you. But , please don't. This is an opinion poll for ALL MEMBERS, and your vote one way or another matters. Thank you in advance, should you decide to cast a vote. Tom.

Great idea for the new coin collectors

I think this is a awsome idea , especially for us newbies

no matter where you go, you will have a few problems with buyers and sellers . I personaly would like postal money orders, and the buyer can wait afew days etc. so the seller can make sure it is good . I myself knows if I bought it at the post office and keep the receipt i should have no worry, i dont mind waiting, if it is a coin that Ihave been wanting and for a good price :thumb:

Also i think a coin price guide would be nice, maybe charge a small fee to subscribe to it . This way we would not have to thumb thru price guides. It would be handy if you were out bid on a coin and at the last minute you decide that you want to raise the bid

This is just a thoght that maybe helpful to some of us.

great input SNDMAN. When both Peter and the Moderators feel they have obtained enough input, they will consider all the suggestions. Thanks.

Absolutely. Been there, done that hundreds of times. And even though you may not believe it, there are thousands of others who feel the same way. They will not bid against each other on ebay or anyplace else.

Is it your personal opinion Doug, that would be a significant factor here in CT ?

I know, as Jim expressed, there will probably be a few others with similar feelings, but not to a point where it would present the "auction" venue with a significant lack of support . Everything we do, or don't do, is a test. Sometimes it works positively, and other times not. But we won't know until we try.

Your correct about my morals and standards. I guess I shouldn't share my opinion because your opinion is not the same as mine? I am simply doing the same thing your doing, sharing my opinion which I believe was asked for.

Here is a great example. I put a coin in a private auction for a very low at the time reserve which was posted for everyone to see. About 1/3 the going price at the time. A very respected person in the group put a bid on it immediately at the reserve price. No more bids were given, however I did receive several emails from people offering to purchase other of the same coin if I had anymore available for more money. Wasn't alot more money about $500 per coin more than the one sold for. They simply would not bid against the person who had placed the opening bid. I sold a few more of them to other members at the same price as the one that was bid on, Why? because thats what friends do .

I have developed some great friends here at CT and simply will not go to war against them so to speak. Again, just my opinion.

I hope they do go forward with both of the items listed. Its going to be a nightmare to administer, Peter, Doug and the rest of CT WILL be pulled into disputes. (that precedent has already been set) I can already see the post in here. Did you see the coin that "insert user" put in the auction, its been recolored, dipped, whizzed, cleaned, eaten and passed, painted, twisted, counterfeit, the list goes on. I bet the PM's will escalate!

Then the fight started. : )

Peter/Doug, Perhaps you should talk to Alan or Brian/Susan about this. See how things happen at their sites.

Jim, I never indicated in my replies that your opinion ( yeah or nay) of this proposed addition to CT Features is not welcomed. Of course it is. What I did object to, was the reasoning your offered as justification for having that opinion and why we (CT) should not have an auction. I will state again, I agree, I would not knowingly feel very good about bidding against a YN here, on CT. ON other sites, I can barely remember my own log in name, so I have no idea of who anyone else is. That said, particular to Ebay, there is a legal age clause in their policies. I'm not breaking the law.
Thats what this poll is about, to solicit responses from the selections provided. To offer your reasoning why, is and always will be subject to scrutiny. I think I have been polite in disagreeing with you. I have a better understanding of why you voted as you did.:pencil:

It is evident, you have a very "poor opinion" of the majority of members of CT, and believe , your the only one that ( and a few others you mentioned) are professional, community spirit minded and with integrity. WOW! Not a pretty picture.:mad:THIS IS YOUR "FAMILY" YOUR SPEAKING OF.

We will just ask Doug to post his opionion on every auction - nobody is more blunt or knowledgeable. Big 4 graded or not. :) I like this idea - see how many people put up questionable coins then. I am not picking on Doug, but I do respect his opinion and listen to it - may not agree or follow it, but that is my choice. Actually there are several around that I pay more attention to than others - but Doug is brutally honest at times.

As for bidding against members - I have no problem with bidding against anybody. Typically I do not mention which auctions I am or will be bidding on - the few who email me have different tastes and goals anyway. So no problem bidding against anyone here. Hey - maybe we could make it 1 bid per user? Bid your best once and then you can't bid again. That would prevent shill bidders and maybe force people to put in a reserve. :)

I still think we need to skip auctions and such.

Mark H. I would not agree with having doug or any other moderator be responsible in that end. Only after buyer/seller disputes, if any, can not come to an amicable resolution, should any question/dispute be brought to "THE FINAL WORD". Encourage responsibility for professionalism and integrity. There's a price to pay if we don't. Share the Knowledge and appropriate behavior. I have trust that for the most part, our members are very capable of that.

Laughing. Hardly. I have high regard for 99% of the users here. You should go and read how many times in the last month that somebody has posted an ebay auction and read the responses, Are we going to take "that" attention from ebay and transfer it amongst the CT group? How many of the gone bad auctions will Peter/Doug be asked to resolve? Oh and I think that my true colors have been shown in CT after being here for 3 1/2 years and having purchased, traded and sold to many of the members here. :)

Jim, from you comments and expectations of "troubles" that members would create in "our family" auction, how could one not be inclined to think that you have a very low opinion of membership majority. Inquiring minds wish to know.

Jim, how are these statements not a "poor or low" opinion of the majority of CT membership. Please explain.

Do a search here in CT about ebay auctions and you will see what I am talking about. Has nothing to do with my opinion. People are People and problems will follow this proposed change. When money is involved it has an effect on people, ever see a fight between siblings when a parent passes away? With all the auction, buy, sell sites out there now. I just feel that this is not a positive change for this site.

If they do make the change Peter, Doug and the rest of the mods know they will have my support.

Please don't attempt to insult my intelligence. Yes Sir, People are people, as you put it, but your suggesting that the majority of the CT membership would display ill-tempered and unprofessional behavior to the point of making the proposed auction nothing short of uncontrollable havoc. Good lord Jim, thats not going to happen. Have your opinion, but please try assuming the best in people, give things a chance, you may be pleasantly surprised. I'm certain that if this feature, is not found to be workable, for the reasons you suggest, that too can change. Don't give yourself a stroke over this.

I would agree that the open section be reworked (wasn;t sure how to show that with a vote, so didn't vote). Cointalk is not a static environment and auctions could be abused by the immoral once the word gets out about auctions.
