I have looked at coppercoins.com and did not see any variety like it but it does not look like machine doubling as I can only see 3 spots on the coin which are doubled... The second 5 in the date has a second curl... the "IBE" in Liberty and the "I" on the In God We Trust both appear to have some as well. Anyone seen this before?
If you're asking if this coin is the big money 1955 double die, then the answer is this: NOT EVEN CLOSE!!! You should probably be able to find an image on google because this is a very well known coin. You can see the difference for yourself, it's relatively obvious. If you're asking if there is doubling on the coin, I don't think so, but I am no expert on die varieties. The pics do seem to show a bit of metal near the second 5, it looks to me to be a die chip rather than doubling. The Liberty and IGWT seem to just be mushy in strike, not doubled. hth
This is known as a 'Poormans doubled die' which is actually not a doubled die at all. The doubling which appears on the last 5 was caused by die deterioration. It can be seen on other dates like the 1953. It is very common.
