Your zig zaggy thing on the top of the right side goes a different way than the Egypt 5 Qirsh. Just noticed that.
If I'm not mistaken, that index is just on numista, right? It isn't an overall rarity index. Maybe I'm understanding it wrong.
From my understanding as a Numista user, the rarity index is just a measure of how many users have this particular coin in their collection. In essence, the higher a coin is on the rarity index, the fewer users own that particular coin. https://en.numista.com/forum/topic60117.html
@Bradley Trotter is correct. It is really not the best way to determine the value of a coin though, stick to eBay sold listings
The tugra on the obverse, was used on coins of the Ottoman era and subsequent period in places beyond the boundaries of the country (Crimea, Sudan, Afghanistan, India). It is very easy to separate them since their details had never come close to the delicacy of the Ottoman tugras. There are two different dating systems for Ottoman coins: Kostantiniye ( Costantinople), Misir (Egypt) and Baghdad, there is the date of the accession of the Sultan and either on the obverse or the reverse, the year of the reign when it was issued is shown. @Heavymetal There is also an excellent book, "Arabic Coins and how to read them" by Richard Plant. Sometime ago it was available for free as a pdf. I dowloaded it. Now the pdf isn't available on the web and I don't know if I infringe any copyright laws by uploading it. If you are interested in the pdf, just PM me and I can mail it to you.
I picked this out of a big box of ‘junk’ foreign coins at the LCS. He bought out a couple other dealers last year. Looked and felt like silver so I threw it in my pile. I guess I’m into it for $.10 US. Lol I will PM you though, always use these picks to improve my knowledge Larry
Egypt 5 Qirsh km#253.1 ah1277//4 The “squiggly” is for year 4. The 5 is on the front below the toughra.
