Why doesn’t the US Mint make cool videos like the Royal Mint??

I suppose that glitzy coin videos would likely appeal to younger coin collectors. And bringing younger collectors into the hobby is a healthy thing. I rather feel like the US Mint is just about two steps from becoming on par with the Franklin Mint and glitzy coin videos would complete the transformation.

Lack of imagination IMO has been a feature of coin design within the US Mint for many years. Look back at Teddy Roosevelt commissioning Augustus Saint-Gaudens to design the Eagle and Double Eagle for an example. Had designers within the mint been up to his standards he would have had them do the job.

Even when the U.S. mint went retro and made the gold Mercury dimes, SLQ and Walker half they did a horrible job of copying a timeless design.
The 1989 ASE has a better look and design than any of the newer improved ones IMHO.
About 5 to 8 years ago the World Fair of Money was held in Germany Berlin...all of the countries that produced bullion silver coins made special coins with privys marks on them.
All but the U.S. not that the original ASE is a bad looking coin...it was a chance for US to shine....instead
All the talk was about countries who rose up to the occasion minting quality coins and were the talk of the show.
You either lead, or follow...or sit on the bench. The U.S. mint butt is full of splinters!

Any cartoonists of the 40's,50's and 60's could do a better design then what is coming out of the mint today.
I haven't made any purchases in just about 10 years now...unles it was to flip it and unload it for a profit...and these days I wouldn't take the chance as again the stuff is garbage.

Idk I think it would make the US Mint less like the Franklin Mint if they made cool videos.

They don't have to be over the top or glitzy or anything like that.

It would be cool if they just updated the American Silver Eagle and released a video discussing the updates & new security features and referencing the history of the US Mint and the centuries they've been making all kinds of different coins from the Flowing Hair Dollar to the St. Gaudens Double Eagle to the Memorial Cent.

That might be a good idea, but should they attempt something along those lines, my prediction is the mint would form numerous committees, spend untold dollars and cents, and arrive at something that most of us would not like.

I don't know why though if the Royal Mint could do it.

I just really like the video they did and would love to see one like it with an updated ASE with new security features.

The miserably useless legislative branch that is pandering to their corporate donors expect nothing to happen.

Good question. It has been my experience that every successful project has one person with a vision who makes the decisions. Too many cooks ....

The ASE and AGE obverse designs are by outside artists in the early 20th century. The AGE design was done at the behest of a rare president who cared about the design of US coins. The chief engraver of the mint wasn't happy about it. The ASE design, which came about 10 years later, was part of the wonderful renaissance in US coin designs of that period.

The US Mint has enough problems with its computer on big sales days without loading the site down with videos.

    What's wrong with this commercial?

    here's another of my favorites

yeah they aren't flashy "security videos" showing off the coin security features, but the mint hasn't leaked their new security features yet either but I'd think they should be along the lines of at least what Canada does.
