Hi guys! I just purchased a 1964 Silver Kennedy Half Dollar ...

  1. I purchased it from an estate sale and it appears to be flawless. I plan to submit it to PCGS for grading and hoping for an PR67+, PR68 or better. What do you think?

I don't think its going to get that high of a grade your pictures are a little blurry but I could see this as a PR66 possibly cameo i advise you to not get it certified.

The images are not only blurry, but they are too small for anyone to try to grade them. Take some new images, crop out the unnecessary background and resize the images before you post them.

Hello, Welcome . I think you need to re-take your Pics and CROP . Don't worry about the size. The program will adjust that . I recommend using a Program called LunaPic . Google it . Good luck man.

  7. Okay here is a better cropped pic of the obverse of the '64 Kennedy proof, but taken with my iphone 6 ...lol... it is NOT the best! Any flaws you see are on the phone cam lens, not the coin.

Lovely half. One thing to take into account. That half was issued very shortly after JFK’s death. It was also the last year for silver coinage. What I am getting at is that many, many JFK halves were kept that year so now almost sixty years later, there are plenty of high grade JFK halves. I have six uncirculated rolls myself....... I think you have a lovely coin and I do believe it need to be I some protection, however a TPG slab is more than the coin is worth.

Hi, my grandad passed away 4 mth ago and in his will he left me a war medal + 2 American half dollar coins one is a 1964 coin and the other is a 1976 one are they worth much or are there lots of copies about

  10. Thanks for your input. I'm going to slab it anyway no matter what the grade, as it is an exceptionally beautiful coin (as compared to many I've seen graded and sold), and I'd rather have a PCGS grade attached to it than not.

You don't have to submit it to pcgs get it certified by anacs for %50-%70 less.

  12. Here's a new pic of obverse I just took, but my phone cam is only an iphone 6 and it sucks and has scratches on the phone lens. So flaws you see are on the lens not the
I retook a pic of the obverse, but the cam lens on my iphone 6 is a piece of crap and has particles on the lens that I cannot get off.
I'd rather stick with PCGS or NGC - the cost means nothing to me, but the prestige of those two companies does.

Ok then its your choice not mine your not going to get what you wish for and if you loss money on it its on you not me there are other less expensive ways to protect coins if your intention is to preserve and not sell

The spot above the S in TRUST, that’s on the coin, right?

Those will get bigger before they get smaller.

What would be REALLY interesting is a population report on how many have already been certified at these grades . . .

I'm too lazy to look it up for the OP myself.

That makes sense. Slabbing a coin for personal reasons always trumps slabbing in hopes of a financial reward.

I seriously doubt this will grade a 65 or higher. That spot above TRUST is a killer on this coin. If you insist on grading the coin and that the cost means nothing to you, that's find. You may want to see if they can conserve and protect the coin before it's slabbed.

    Welcome to CT.

I agree with this. If the main point of getting this slabbed is preservation and sentimental value, it makes sense to have it professionally conserved as well.
