I'm pretty sure I have thought it out and you might want to get your facts straight. The original personification of Liberty in early Roman times had her with a conical felt hat that was indicative of what was given to freed slaves, now if I recall correctly the Liberty Cap Large Cent (1793-1796), Half Cent (1794-1797), Bust Dime (1809-1837), Bust Quarter (1815-1838), etc. are all direct representations of the Roman Goddess. Finally, so past presidents are boring subject matter, yet the same representation just with minor design changes isn't? http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/1389461/Libertas
I'll not debate you here, but I will do one final post. Since you agree that I didn't mean for it to be a racial thing, then is it your own bias that made it that way in your mind? No need to answer. I just liked the idea of moderninzing the cent and MLK was an appropraite figure IMO. But, as you know, I prefer Lady Liberty the most. Let's agree on that and move on...
Bob, I never thought you meant for it to be a racial thing, but I think the reasoning behind this is a racial thing. Agreed
Your comment wasn't well thought out or it would have addressed the issue more objectively in the first place and avoided retort. The U.S. figure of Liberty is not a goddess in a religious sense, hence not the same as the Roman Goddess was formerly known, but YES, Liberty is based on that Roman Goddess just as I noted many symbols of the U.S. were also based on those of ancient Roman and Greek culture. The U.S. version of Liberty is not a religious figure but the Roman goddess, Libertas in the link you provided is a religious cult figure of ancient Rome.
Go ahead, feel free ! Just pour it right on there. Then put it in a potato, bake it, and you get the most fabulous rainbow toning ! :mouth:
Now if you use REAL maple syrup is it still artificial toning??? BTW Let's see the return of Liberty, and equality on our coins and in Court System!
MLK on a coin ?????? I hope NOT....... He hardly did anything as noteworthy as the great presidents did.....
