My question is pretty straightforward, as I've already outlined in my title. For starters, are you able to send one of these via media mail? I don't exactly want to send it via priority, especially if there's a cheaper option available.

If you want it to get there safely, FedEx Ground.

Media Mail will do the job.
Pack it well....the USPS is really busy these days - lots of stuff flying around their distribution centers.

That takes forever. If the buyer is paying for shipping, not fair.

What's not fair about it? It qualifies as MM and is the 'most cost effective' as per the OP. Beyond that, most mail 'takes forever' right now anyway.

If it's empty, media mail absolutely qualifies, and is probably going to be the cheapest. In my experience, media mail is often kinda slow - but if the buyer is okay with that, then it's your best bet.

If there are coins in it, the weight may increase rapidly. In that case, the USPS offers a "flat rate" box or envelope - the cost is the same no-matter the weight. I think it's about $8. That would definitely be the cheapest option.

And who's going to open it and check? The mail police? You tell them its a book, it's book shaped, it weighs about book weight... It's a coin book.

Bradley, unless USPS finds the time to open your shipment and inspect it, I suspect you'd be fine with Media Mail.

It does NOT qualify as media mail. If the parcel is inspected, which any postal employee can do, it will be opened, resealed and shipped Priority. It will go to the address on the package postage due for the difference. If refused it it then returned to the sender, postage due. The post office will keep if postage is not paid. I hate to say this but it's best to ship UPS, the least costly way.

And by the way, I'm retired postal management so I know what I'm talking about.

It does not meet any of the definitions in the USPS guidelines.

And my g/f is an OIC. MM is no issue for a book or album....

I've literally never in my life seen or heard of this happening. Technically, I'm sure you're right. In actuality, this will never happen.

It does NOT meet the postal regulations for media mail. You can try and push postal employees but they have the final say. It can be inspected by any postal employee anywhere in transit.

My bigger concern is why is my "signature required" mail being left in my mailbox, and why is my "registered" mail not being kept in a locked and secured area? If the USPS wants to start questioning me, I've got a whole lot of awkward questions to ask them back.

It's not a book by postal definition.

Why? Because it is incredibly slow, and unreliable. There are inexpensive ground services that are safer, and much faster.
