I purchased this token a few months ago and received this paper with it. I nice write up but the only way I could get it on here was sideways. The token is dated May 10, 1837.
Yes, these were issued in opposition to paper currency. Would have been a hoot to live during them years. The good ole' days of innocence! What does shinplaster mean? Difficult to say Frank. It looks uncleaned but that stuff that protects copper coins may have been applied. I can't feel it though and no signs of scratch marks but then it's what, a 184 year old Token so who knows?
