I checked Coppercoins and from their photos I think this is machine doubling but I wanted to check here before I threw them in the spend bin.
It appears to be machine doubling on both sides of the coin. If you have the equipment, could you get a photo of say the "A" in AMERICA and the "D" in GOD a little closer, to see if there is any split ends of the letters? Very fun coin whether is is or isn't! A keeper in my opinion. Jim
This is a scan. I can't get that close up with my camera. I dont have time right now, will try to crop those areas tomorrow. First a or second a in america?
Here's a couple more views. I origionally was only looking at the reverse but the more I looked the obverse also looked interesting. I'm still under the opinion that it's MD. I haven't seen any before with both the obverse and reverse doubled however.
Sorry for the false alarm guys. You're right, I took it to my shop and looked at it under more magnification. Gotta get me a good camera! I guess I got the fever cause the day before I found this one. The die markers match up and I'm sure this is the real thing.
Sweet '95! I'm still looking for my first one like it. Good luck on finding an 83 DDR. I bought a digital coin microscope on eBay. Check those out, they're great for searching and for pics. I got the cheaper one from Hong Kong and it didn't disappoint. Jason B
Be sure to study the photo of yours "IN GOD ...." and notice the splitting ( doubling) of the serif ( like the bottom end of the "G"). That is one of the major indications of a true DD. Nice find! Jim
I have been looking for a 95 since 95. No, just kidding. I have been looking for awhile though. Great find!
Thanks Desertgem and Rockdude for your help. Lesson learned here, better lighting and more magnification.
