I think the title speaks for itself.

I’m just wondering if Peace Dollars have the same amount of silver as the older Morgan Dollars?

Are they both 90% silver like 1964 JFK half dollars & Walking Liberty half dollars?

    Yes - .77344oz

FYI - The Red Book has all of the information concerning weight, diameter and composition for most US coins.

Really? I have a “MEGA” Red Book and I saw the specifications for the Morgan Dollars but I must have missed the specs on the Peace Dollar.

I’m guessing that 0.77344 ozt is when they are still BU right?

I know some coins like silver dimes & quarters can lose a significant amount of silver with wear.

Coins would have to wear quite a bit to lose much of their weight.

Well I mean I know a dealer who actually weighs Roosevelt dimes when they are sold to him to determine how much actual silver is still there.

He showed me a circulated Roosevelt Dime next to a BU Barber Dime and the Roosevelt Dime I could actually see was thinner.

I have a regular Red Book, and the specs for the Peace dollar are in it.

I must have missed it. My apologies.

If I had known it was in there I would’ve simply looked and saved myself the time & hassle of making a post. :/

Now I’m going to check if the even older Draped Bust Dollars have the same amount of silver xD.

That may be true if someone is selling them in bulk, but the difference for a single coin is quite miniscule. Personally, I don't have any interest in the smaller denominations because they give me a headache.

Oh yeah I was talking about in bulk.

When I was there a few months ago a guy brought in a big bag of 90% Roosevelt dimes, 90% 1964 JFK halves & 90% Barber Quarters.

All of them were common dates & mints and in heavily circulated condition (VG-VF) and my LCS dealer put the bags on a scale and paid him based on weight.

I believe it all weighed around 3 kilograms so my dealer paid him based on that weight.

If I remember correctly he wanted to trade it all for 1x 1oz AGE and a 1/4 oz AGE.

    What do the 1oz & 1/4oz AGE's sell for?

I believe at the time a 1 oz AGE was going for ~$1800 and a 1/4 oz AGE was going for about $500 (bigger premium for smaller amounts). So $2300 total.

Are the new collector Peace dollars being made by the mint this year going to be .900 or .999 fine?

    No idea about Peace Dollars.

However I did hear that at the Mint’s symposium they said that they were going to be making a 1 oz Gold Morgan Dollar to celebrate 100 years since the last Morgan Dollar was minted in 1921.

Now that would be beautiful. Especially as a proof!

Hmm! It sounds to me like "your LCS" made a pretty good profit on that deal. Be wary!

I’m not sure if they even did make a deal.

I just went in to pick up an 1884 CC Morgan Dollar and they were talking about it but I left before they finished business.

I'm really excited for these to come out, I think they'll be really cool to have. I like both designs so I'm hoping I can buy one of each.

Hopefully they don't sell out in 7 minutes while I'm at work. Happened a couple weeks ago with the proof ASE's
