As most of you know, the 2021 Winter FUN show was canceled this year. NGC and PCGS hold receptions for collectors during these events. Both given out souvenir slabs to those who are invited. I was pleasantly surprised to hear from NGC who asked me for my mailing address. Today I received a 2021 NGC sample slab. Thanks for remembering us! Those of you who know anything about Indonesian coins, feel free to weigh in.
It's a nice coin, but it's quite common. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces7813.html https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide/world/indonesia-50-sen-km-14-1959-1961-cuid-1131639-duid-1475959
Undoubtedly so, it's still a nice memento from an event that never happened, kind of like patches issued for the 1935 National Scout Jamboree.
Funny, I have two neckerchiefs for the 2021 national Jamboree that were given to me at the 2019 WSJ. Now that national has been postponed/cancelled past 2021 I wonder if they'll be worth anything. Gear from the 1979 WSJ (Iran, cancelled for the Iranian revolution) is worth a lot.
Good question, but I have the feeling there will be plenty of these floating around since the BSA orders mass quantities well in advance. Regardless, it reminds me of how my OA lodge started selling patches for NOAC 2015 a year and a half before the event.
Wow nice sample slab, it's cool to see items from shows that were cancelled/didn't happen. Both PCGS and NGC have contributed greatly to my experience as a YN, I could not have asked for more. PCGS gave me a sweet 2019-W PR70DCAM silver eagle with the FUN show label back in 2019, as well as a lot of merchandise I still use today. NGC gave me two black sample slabs and one white one when I won their free FUN show contest in 2020. They also gave me $300 for placing first, which I spent at the National money show on Bill Fivaz's & Ken Bresset's grading seminar and bought a sweet 1806 draped bust half. I know a lot of people like to rip on the TPG's for a ton of things, and IMO some of the criticism is valid, they have done a lot not only for me but also for other YN's who are devout to numismatics.
We can thank Dena for sending these out. Cool lady. Received mine also. Great to have one for this year. Thought I was going to have a hole in my collection. They do have a nice value. Don't think I have one with a foreign coin.
I'm pretty sure they sent everyone the same coin. I also got an Indonesian 50 Sen. I really appreciated the thought from Dena to send these out. I've got these sample slabs from every show I've been to.
I appreciate the post. One of these appeared on eBay, but I did not know the story behind it. May I help myself to the photo, in case I make a third edition of the Sample Slabs book?
I think Dena was trying to get as many of the people as she could who regularly attend the FUN luncheon (or, last time, cocktail hour).
I was overwhelmed last year at FUN 2020 and missed so many things like that. Hopefully I can be better organized and attend in 2022.
I have the same question that I think @GoldFinger1969 is asking: How do you get an invitation to the luncheon or cocktail hour or whatever it might be? I'm just whinging because I'm not a big shot!
Many of us received invitations from being long term members over on the NGC forums. I'm sure that anyone that uses the NGC grading services can contact Dena and she will add you to the list. As a normal, someone with an invitation can bring a guest.
Thanks LD.....I've been a bit more active over there of late, maybe I'll get an invite for FUN 2022. Hope to see all my FUN friends again in 11 months and hang out alot more.
