This looks like it may be a DD per Wexler. Can anyone confirm? BTW, this coin came out of circulation. No idea how it came out in such good condition. Note that I don't believe the neck and vest are part of the doubling.
Thanks Kevin. The closest I can find is Wexler 1963-D 1C wddo-048. There are many doubles of the 1963 D missing though and while this looks very close, it's not exact.
It does seem to have more die deterioration signs, that affect the rim flattened areas. This being a double squeeze era coin, there should be signs of 'height' on the possible doubling, rather than flat. Die deterioration is usual when the rim area letters are close to touching the edge such as the L and T. IMO, Jim
Thanks for your input. There are raised areas on the R, U and last T in trust. They look very similar to Wexler 1963-D 1C wddo-048. I think it's is a different doubling though as there seem to be 1 or 2 differences. Wexler has many doubles shown for that coin without pic's or descriptions.
Thanks desertgem. Maybe the pic's don't show the rim correctly. It's a very strong rim all around the coin.
A mischoice of words for me. I should have said the flattened doubling on the obverse close to the rim. Typing and doing other things too much. Jim
I agree -48 has similarities. Let me look into this some. I was trying to do it from my phone...not the right tool for the job.
@RBurk You may have a discovery piece. I took a look at Wexler's listings, Coppercoins, and Variety Vista. I don't see a match and while -048 is close, I think it's different. You have the piece in hand and it's possible that the markers for -048 are for a die stage different than yours. So you might want to send it to Wexler for examination. He can determine if it is a different die state or a new discovery. I'm leaning a new discovery. Nice find from the wild!!
Thanks for your input Kevin! I'm emailing John with pics to see if he's interested in seeing it. I'll let you know when I hear back.
@RBurk Can you see these markers from Wexler? Reverse: A light die scratch runs SW from the bottom of the 2nd S in STATES to the top of the 2nd U of PLURIBUS. A die scratch runs SW from the bottom of the 1st U in PLURIBUS to the top of the 2nd U in UNUM.
I don't see them, but I'm a total novice. I've take a couple of closeups for your review. The original pics posted were from a different coin. The correct pics are shown in a new post below.
