900Fine said it was OK to show some 'furrin' gold, so here is another: This one a scarce little 1/2 escudo coin dated 1821 from Peru.

Nice story behind this coin. My son bought it for me at the Frankfurt Numismata last year after he saw me looking at it, but passing due to the price and because I did not have a reference catalogue with me. He went back to the dealer w/o telling me, and managed to get it for 70 Euros! We were really surprised when we looked it up in the World Coin catalogue and saw it listed for $ 200 in VG, and $400 in Fine. I dare say this coin is a little better!

Eduard: What does "furrin" mean? Does it refer to fake or ill-begotten?

Some more German medieval gold. A Goldgulden minted in Brandenburg around 1480. This seems to be a popular coin, also with collectors in the U.S, due to the nicely detailed reverse.

No, by that i mean FOREIGN but pronounced in slang (American?) english. I saw somebody use that spelling once in the forum, and it stuck with me.

Thanks for the clarification as I'd never seen nor heard that in use.

It's humor; a play on redneck speech. I have personally never heard anyone speak that way.

and hey... bring on the furrin' gold !!!! ;)

900fine, you have never been to Texas?

in Engineering - I thought everybody there talked that way!

Wow, this is getting spooky! I finished off my BS ChE at U.T-Austin, then got my MS ChE there as well! Hook 'em Horns!

I lived in Jester Center at first, but then moved off campus.

As you say, a very small world!

What is funny is that most of us do say stuff like furrin' and fur', instead of foreign and for.

You say "young ones" we say "young un's"

Just how we talk.. LOL :D

LOL. I never heard that one, maybe after my time (1978-1981). But Lord (or should i say Lawd) it is true....

Actually before living at Jester Center I never imagined that 2 people (roommates) could possibly live in such a small space. To make end meets, I worked at the cafeteria, so I know first hand how bad the food there really was (is?)

I miss Texas., really.......(besides the heat!) specially since I left the place to return to civilization.

Ok, back to coins, so what do y'all think about them thar furrin' gold coins?

Eduard I gotta say I love the furrin' gold coins, and I really hate the heat out here! We barely get any rain! We got about 2 minutes worth yesterday.
