Wow! What's a guy like you doing with a girl like that? This is love at first sight if there ever was it. I'm seeing AU58, but well above that for the money grade.
Congrats @ksparrow and @micbraun The half dollar is a PCGS AU53 with green CAC Now that I have it in hand, it seems to have much better luster than what the sellers pic shows. It really does look like a 55 to me; it's nicer than any other AU53 I've had/seen. I will try to upload a video of it on my YouTube page tomorrow.
Boy PCGS AU 53 CAC, that's a sure winner. I still think is better than a 53. But, I would buy it in a heart beat at that grade. That is a coin you don't need the slab to tell you how nice it is. I'd rather have that coin than a beat up low mint state coin or a coin struck with worn dies. I always loved the bust coinage.
Yes! Super-sharp coin. The funny "S" on "States" almost looks like it must be an error...forgive my ignorance of this type of coin.
This is one gorgeous Bust half! The strike is outstanding! PCGS was very hard with the five BH submissions I made last year. The light rubs on the eagle’s brow and wing tips and Miss Liberties curls put this in the AU class. Luster is not showing in the photo but the beautiful toning, the strike, and clear surfaces combine to say AU 58. I hope the graders do better for you then they did for me.
Seems like the consensus is, you got an AU-58 Bust Half at an AU-53 price. Is that why they say, "Buy the coin, not the grade?" In this case it appears the other way around. Bottom line, trust your own assessment when it comes to grading, I don't care what the slab says!!!
I said before the reveal that I graded it AU-55 but it was probably slabbed AU-58. I think the coin at AU-53 could easily be under-graded unless there is something I'm not seeing in the photos. The CAC graders are better at it than I am, so if they agreed with me then I would expect to see a gold bean on it. In any event, I think it's a lovely coin and would be delighted to have it in my collection. Great acquisition.
