If this is a high grade I will throw my large cent collection away.

    Ebay auction # 150359979616

My friend emailed him and told him to have it graded before calling it a high graded coin. I'm not sure if this guy is playing a scam or is just ignorant of coin grading.

I think he is being an idiot.
This is just another obnoxious ebay listing, with another selling just trying to claim he has an extremely rare and high graded coin, when that is not the case.
Boy O Boy, that coin just looks ugly, I wonder who in the right mind what think that is a really high grade LC.

    I don't understand your distress.

After all, the coin was a choice to gem unc, prior to being badly circulated and used for target practice.

What do you find wrong? He is simply grading the coin as anyone with a brain could see, choice high grade nearly rare grade.

After all, it is rare to find a coin like that.

Overgrading is rampant on Ebay. :goof: I do not go by what anyone says, I go by what my eyes see. :kewl: So listings such as this, don't bother me.

    Ribbit :)

Ps: I think Ebay should ban the use of the word "rare" unless the seller can provide reference citations that stipulate it is rare. ;)

I am the same way. I always love it when they show an AG coin - call it high grade. I just figure their definition is just different from mine. :)

True dat ! I've never seen that exact buckshot pattern on any other coin.

Hey ! This guy could advertise this coin as a "unique pattern" !!!!

And everywhere else coins are sold.

I appreciate the sentiment, but I doubt it can happen. How does one define the word "rare" ? It would have a ripple effect far, far beyond E-bay.

I emailed him and brought to his attention that this auction was a lie, aimed at newbies and rubes who don't know anything about coins. I doubt he'll reply to me. If he sells it for 99 cents then he should lose money with postage. But I'm sure he'll find some excuse not to ship it if it sells for low $$.
    I'm watching this guy.

    My response to bluebird1550,

Your misleading people by telling them their high grade coins ---circulated,worn or cleaned coins are not high graded coins-especially ones that have a hole in them- If you believe their high grade coins then have them graded-if your not scamming people Then educate yourself on coin grading.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
If more of us would e-mail him maybe he would get a clue ---cause the sad part is that newbies to coin collecting are paying alot and are getting burned.I know many of us learned the hard way.But it just ticks me off-check out his recent listings- Thanks

The Sellers use of "Rare" and "Extremely Rare" must be referring to the Steaks he is cooking up from all of the profits he is making of newbies and other amateurs to coin collecting!

And what do you say is wrong here? The 78-S is the key and the G-4 price probably is in the $17K range. And if what he has is a a 78-S it would be a highly desired coin, even in the condition shown. (Only problem is that it isn't a 78-S, it's a 76-S. Mintmark is in the wrong position for a 78-S. Too low, too far right.)

Thanks I didnt noticed that-But the date is not readable and E-bay policy states you cant give a value or grade on a non certified coins in the title except the 4 or 5 graders they have listed-But they allow some and not others to get away with it-Anyway the seller is a scammer-claiming high grade coins -which are not-Anyway,Thanks for the e-mail
