Hi guys. I will post details and pcgs numbers tomorrow but please any Chicago dealers having someone attempting to sell very high quality cac stickered pcgs coins be wary. Total value stolen around 145,000 in coins. Will post serials tomorrow it is almost 1am thanks
Hi guys. No the coins were in my house. They were being transferred over to the bank, but were being photographed some more (see my posts to see collections). The good news is they did not get everything, some of the stuff was locked in another location, but around $50k was taken. Here are the PCGS cert #'s stolen right now. All were CAC'd. Any dealers in the Chicago area who might see these come across their table please notify me. That really sucks, i'm very sorry to hear about this. I assume the police are involved, any leads? Could it be an inside job or does this seem to have been a lucky payday for some 2 bit crackhead? Hopefully you will get them back! Good luck!
I'm not sure. We live in a very nice suburb but unfortunately there has been a crime spree going on here. Many of the houses in the neighborhood are $3M + houses, and almost SIXTEEN got robbed last month. Yesterday THREE got robbed, including ours. Their looks to be blood on the door and they are hoping for fingerprints somewhere, but we're not too optimistic. We do suspect someone though and are patiently waiting to find out more.
Jesh, Have you been getting in contact with coin shops? If the the thieves know anything about coins I doubt they'd go to a pawn shop for lower dollar. Coin shops or ebay would get better money.
I sure hate to see rogbberies of any kind and with coins they are usually just dumped either at a bank or flea market. Not sure if your familiar with the numerous flea markets in the Chicago area as well as pawn shops, coin stores, coin shows, etc. Remember there is a coin show every Sunday in the suburb area. Flea markets are booming with (borrowed) merchandise. Not sure when this robbery took place but if recently and your in the Northern area, you should have taken a fast run through the Allstate one in Rosemont on Saturday and/or Sunday. That Swaporama flea market in Melrose Park is rather famous for borrowed items too. I've never seen a coin show dealer check numbers on slabs they are purchasing so you should probably try some of those coin shows. If you have that much in coins I'm sure your aware of the numerous coin shows and coin stores in the area. Also, if your in the Chicago area you must realize that the police just have a few other items of interest to look for. Considering the massive murder rate lately, drive by shooting craze, home invasions on the rise, well over 50,000 autos stolen per year in the Chi area alone. Sorry to be pessimistic but just not a lot of crimes are being resolved lately. Been 3 houses on my block alone robbed not long ago. Police usually are honest and tell you that your stuff is long gone.
One further note that is rather on the Pessimistic side is if you've been to the Countryside Coin show last week you would have seen possibly 80 to 100 dealers. Almost all of them had a massive amount of slabbed coins. Just who would take the time with a list of numbers to start checking for stolen ones and just how many dealers would allow someone to check each one? Same at the Itasca show today.
Very sorry to hear that. I'd suggest calling any major dealer you know and asking if he or someone he knows could broadcast the information over the teletype. Get the coin dates/grades, etc. and their ID numbers in easy-to-read order for whomever you speak to. And you might also try contacting the PNG at 760-728-1300 to see if they will send out a notice to its members. Best of luck
Sorry to hear about this unfortunate mishap. That is just crazy about all those robberies... (And were any of the people home during these robberies?) None of these people have guard dogs? Very odd, I have a vicious dog when it comes to people he doesn't know, and dad is a cop, and I have a lot of weaponry in the house as well. Well I assume you were not home with this happened? Well I guess it is a good thing too, they could have been armed, and you could have been hurt. The best news here is that you are okay. Good luck with getting your coins back, and hopefully you'll get a lead to the scum who did this.
So sorry! I have printed off your post and will take it by a couple of pawn shops and coin dealers here in downstate Peoria.
You should get in touch with Harlen Berks on Clark St. in the Loop , downtown Chicago , they'll buy just about anything , really hope you get your stuff back . rzage
If sixteen houses had burglaries last month why would you have 50K worth of coins in your house and unattended no less? Thats crazy. If your are going to keep coins of that value in your home, a security and CCTV system is a must along with insurance for the coins. Hope you get them back.......
I don't think it matters if you have coins or not, you should have a security system set, right when you walk out that door, no matter where you are going, no matter how long.
