Nice Hal. Gives me hope for my next box.

I was talking to the teller and she said that a few months ago a kid came in and wanted a 20 dollar bill for 20 silver coins......she said they had "like a walking liberty front and an eagle on the back and they were one oz of silver."

WHAT? 20 Silver eagles for 20 bucks!!!! I REALLY need to work at a bank!!!!!!!

Yes working at a bank would be nice! A few days ago the teller teased me about getting a 1928 $2 in from a bustomer but he bought it for himself.

    ARRRRGGGG!

I have 3 banks who order halves for me each week (one orders 2 boxes). On my bank run, one forgot, and the other two have only one vault teller, both are out until Tuesday. So, I have 3 boxes waiting for me, but none to look through this weekend.

    :( :( :(

What an interesting talk subject! I have always been one who puts change in jars, bottles, cups et al for years. I believe I inherited this from my dad. I was stationed in Las Vegas for 2+ years and every time I got a Blackjack and a half I put it in my pocket. Love to gamble but not the wearwithall to do it often. I put the halves in a plastic 5 gallon water bottle. Looking back I could kick myself - I rolled em all up and got the green foldy dead presidents for them all. Any way, my dad cashed in or sold all his collection except a few which I now have and this triggered my collecting rebirth. Haven't done much roll searching but from what I've read hear it could be fun! I wondered why dad left 1960 & 1960 D Lincoln pennies. The copper content of Memorial pennies from 1960 thru 1983 is higher than all after 1983. I read this CT Forum and someone mentions they came across a 1968 S in AU condition. I just saw one of those today when going thru my pennies in the bottles I have! Several 1959 P&D in the same condition. Guess I should pay more attention, huh? It is a great way to see if your kids/grandkids are interested by handing them a Whitman's Folder and some pennies. In my case, Whitman folders and a bottle of pennies I know will go in thaose particular folders. Guess I'll move up to nickels, dimes and quarters. Interesting time killer! Thanx, folks.

OK! I'm back after reading another input. Dad left me 10 $2s and 9 $1 Silver Certificates. Clueless of their worth or how to find out! Open to questions/suggestions.

Questions about boxes of half dollars

I got my first box. Do they always come in the "machine" rolls? Or do you sometimes get "hand" rolled coins in a box?

Also, are all pre-1970 coins made with silver? Quarters, nickels, and dimes too?

    Thanks!

No, only half's - with the exeption of some special issues that I wouldnt ever expect to find in rolls.

1964 and earlier half's, quarters and dimes are 90% silver.

The sealed boxes that I have been getting from the banks are all machine rolled.

Picked up my box of Halfs from WaMu and got an interesting suprise when they brought it from the vault to the teller line they a bag of Ike's $100 dollars worth to be exact. Gota luv the tellers at that branch saving the 'odd' coins they get for me.

Now to go thru the box of halfs.

Bob, it's called paying your dues. Just ride it out. Luck comes in streaks. When they come, they'll come in bunches. You'll feel like Jessie James. ;)

ok... my luck has been a little down latley. $50 in pennies and $100 in nickels yielded 14 wheaties (2 30's, 7 40's & 5 50's) and nada from the nickels. Not the worst I have seen, but, sure could use one of those nice 20's everyone seems to be getting lately :)

Yesterday in a regular ole box of pennies: 42 wheats (none rare), 3 dimes, and one plastic penny. Normally we only get 6-10 wheats in a box. I have no idea why the high count. On roll had five wheats in it.

I have had similar experiences with boxes getting 52 wheats in one box. My thought is that it was someone who dumped a load of unsorted copper cents that they had hoarded because my box was around 85-95% copper. Was this similar in your cases?
