The coin you refer to is from Egypt, looks to be the size of 10 millemes, bust is of King Farouk, the date somewhere between 1938 and 1943. This information is on the reverse of the coin.
Im back..I went to bed after i took them pics ,it took longer than I expected it to take. Then I had to work all day and cut the grass. I live in north port Florida, about an hour and a half south of Tampa. If you knew anybody in Sarasota or fort Myers that would be best.I hate going to Tampa.not gonna happen!! These are just a few of some coins I came across recently. Mostly I collect american coins.I like just about anything I can get.So Im not too picky. The funny thing is,one of the nicest coins I own, I aquired when I was a boy for one dollar. Its an old 1887 indian head penny in AU condition.
it is 1935. I can read arabic numbers, due to the fact I served in the us army in desert sheild/storm back in 90 and 91. perhaps this is why I took a liking to this coin .
Fu'ad is a common name in that region..Am I correct. I recall hearing abdulla fuad on more than one instance. Please enlighten me..Thank you for your input it has been very helpful.
Yes, Fu'ad and Abdullah are common names. This particular Fu'ad was sultan of Egypt during the Great War from 1917, and became King when Egypt achieved full independence in 1922. He was succeeded by Farouk in 1936, who ruled until forced to abdicate the thone in 1952. If you show a picture of the reverse of the coin it will clear the matter of what date it is.
I think the 1919 French 2 Franc is one of the loveliest Obverses in history. (Ceres) Next to Farrouk looks like a German 1 Mark silver coin. Nice cache, Traci
Here is a picture of the back of the egyptian coin.I know I told you it was 1935 but that was incorrect. on the left I believe it to be 1938. But if you look on the right side there are more numbers,(help me here... they appear to say 1357 I am unsure what this is or what it means..ThanksP7170909.jpg
that was a poor picture maybe this one will be betterP7170918.jpg after a little research,I believe the number on the left is 1938 ..and the number on the right is 1357.(what does this mean?)
The date 1938 is the Christian year (AD). The date 1357 is the equivalent in Islam, as in AH 1357. The Islamic calendar begins in 622 AD, but is based on the lunar cycle, thus proceeds faster than the solar year.
benkarl, I live in San Antonio, too. There is a rather large (well large in purchasing power, they seem to be rather small and tucked away) coin store located on Austin Highway. I can get the details if you're interested (in case you are wanting to sell them all quickly). I don't much like to aid to people who aren't really collectors, but just profit from the hobby, but it's your option not mine... Plus who said you were even going to sell them?... Anyway, good luck. PM if you want.
