    What's with the date - specifically, between the 1 & 9??? Not a die break, looks like a "ghost" 9. Could be the image/shadowing and/or MD or DD perhaps?

    That's the results on plated zinc cents when you have die deterioration.. That's all.

    The person or persons who made the decision to switch from Copper Planchets over to Copper plated zinc planchets.. Thats who! Because of them we have thousands of poor souls misidentifiing doubling and thousands of unnecessary threads on the subject.
