First, I only buy coppers from them and I haven't seen them doctor the pics on coppers and second, I look for problems with the pics and if I have concerns, I just don't bid. I've bought a couple of DBC's from them and possibly a colonial copper or two and I haven't had any problems but like I said, I don't buy silver or gold so that's probably the area where most of the problems are at. Ribbit
Toad I can not see how you got a deal on any of their copper - must be exceptions, cause I was just checking their copper and not with a 10 ft pole would I touch any of them. IMHO most are already past anything I would pay. One example - a choice au.
Here's an example of one I would bid on: http://cgi.ebay.com/1796-Liberty-Cap-Large-Cent-RARE-Date-SCARCE_W0QQitemZ280372561008 It's a 1796 S-84. I also believe I've seen this seller providing incorrect rarity ratings on coppers and I've seen those coppers sell for double what they should, because of the hype. :goof: But I know what I'm looking at with coppers so they can say anything they want to say, it won't affect my bid but most peeps don't know what we know and they see this seller as one that must know what they're talking about and the bidiots fall for it. So while I will buy from this seller, I will also warn others to be cautious when looking at anything they sell but that goes for any seller on Ebay, no matter who they are! I'm sure the CT Ebay sellers would prefer to be scrutinized by everyone than for no one to scrutinize the scammers. :hammer: The honest sellers have nothing to hide but the scammers have a lot to hide. See my comment above. The PCGS slabbed coin I received was just what I expected. Very best regards, collect89
Handsome Toad I guess it's hard for me to understand buying from someone you generally consider to be misrepresenting their merchandise, even if you know what you're in for and assume they are misrepresenting their grade/photo. Hard for me to deal with someone I don't trust, even if I am doing it with my eyes wide open. There are plenty of honest dealers out there. Just my thoughts, and yes I get their emails and enjoy looking at their coins and seeing what they go for. I just won't buy from them, even their few slabbed offerings.
When you collect by variety sometimes you take what you can get. Plus they could post an NC variety and it becomes a steal. I see what toad is saying - I used to attribute all the copper I looked at now. At this point I only try to attribute those I might be interested in.
I do attribute most coppers I look at, if doable. As to buying from a scammer, I don't consider what they do to qualify as scamming. I see sellers over-grading & over-hyping their coins all the time so I'm used to that and don't pay much attention to what a seller says, unless it happens to be important and/or fraudulent. If you want to see a TRUE scammer, check out this seller: http://cgi.ebay.com/c-1800-George-Washington-Funeral-Medal-Electro_W0QQitemZ140333087805 If you will read the description, they sold this once and it came back because it's a electrotype copy, yet the seller tries to make it sound like the buyer had no clue what they were talking about. :goof: The person that bought it is a well known and respected person in the C4 arena (mentioned several times in Bowers new book) and he took it to another expert and got his opinion before sending it back, since he felt it wasn't authentic but wanted a second opinion. So the person the seller is referring to, happens to be 2 of the biggest colonial collectors/experts and the seller was fully briefed on why it's fake and this seller has sold several counterfeit colonials in the past, so this situation frosted the cake for me! :goof: I will NEVER buy from that seller! :hammer: Ribbit
My experience has been quite different. In fact, I have purchased a number of raw coins from them. Every coin I have purchased has been exceptional. Each coin I have received has been as good as the photo. I hold the coin in my hand and look at the photos and I ask myself, is it live or is it Memorex? Their photos are that dead on accurate. And so is their grading. I have been collecting coins for 42 years now.
You joined to revive a 2.5 year old thread and try to make a particular company look good? Seems fishy.
Not at all. Just happened upon it and thought I would reply. Didn't actually notice the dates but I see now they are from '09. Your perfectly welcome to remain cynical if you like. Not my place to convince you, just posted my comment. You are free to take it or leave it.
they got only negative feedback i have ever left on Ebay. I did compliment them on their pics because the pic looked way better than the coin I got. it was an early MS walker and I have been collecting them for years. nobody I do business with would describe the coin I got like they did. never again.
If you feel that their grading is dead on accurate, then I regret to inform you that there is an extremely high probability that you have been incorrectly grading your coins for the last 42 years.
The fact is that this seller uses images that both hide flaws yet makes the coin look good, even great to the untrained eye. The achieved prices for almost all of their sold merchandise is most likely the result of shill bidding. Spend some time and look at bid histories to decide for yourself. Beyond this, common sense dictates that this seller simply has too many better coins that are raw. I highly doubt they are simply old school and are anti-TPG like a handful of other older dealers. Considering the huge percentage of obvious problem coins that are raw, it is likely that they buy detail/genny coins on the cheap, crack them out to sell as their "gems". This is not a coincidence. Just to be clear, although I've never - nor would I ever - bought from them, I do have a couple of customers who have. Thus far 100% of the coins acquired from them that I've seen (approx. 10) have been, without a doubt, problem examples. caveat emptor!!
