Coin World issue7/27/09 is reporting that 09 cent are toning before they can release the mint set.
90% copper acting up and that is why the release date is getting moved back,so they can find the right mix for the cents.

I sounds like a good thing to me. Anticipation brings higher prices.

What's the matter? Nobody left over from '82 to get the "mix" right?

not the 1982 mix, the 1909 mix. A very different composition from 1982.

I thought the 1981 and 1909 compositions are the same.

So does this mean the bronze cents in the proof sets will start tarnishing soon? That must be why my proof cents came with spots. :D

I thought that the mint would learn to check every step by now. I believe there is a different rinse they use now and that has cause all kinds of problems with toning and spotting on different coins. They should go back to whatever they were using 100 years ago it worked better than now.

The minting process has also changed in the last 100 years.

the original composition (1909) of the Lincoln Cent was:

    .950 copper
    .050 tin and zinc

    1962-1982 composition:

    .950 copper
    .050 zinc

How shocking that the Mint would be holding back an issue. That's never happened before.
