This seller has a 1911 and a 1913 quarter eagle ending shortly and they look identical except for the date. Sure looks strange... or is it just me? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370225997885&
p.s. My prior post was in reference to the 1911. I see nothing wrong with the 1913, but wouldn't presume that it is real either.
It's pitiful. Look at the stars. I've never seen one with an edge that looks like that and the date looks small. Don't blame them though. "...they're not experts." Don't you guys get sick of that line from people who deal with coins all the time?
Well, I thought it might be my eyes... but when you click on "supersize this image", well, both the '11 and the '13 look like nothing I've ever seen before!
Was it made from clay? Gosh those look like we could crush um' in our hands. Makes me sick, sellers selling counterfeits...
I contacted the seller and Ebay. The 1911 is a bad counterfeit (look at the blown up images and you will see that the details are way off/wrong) and I believe the 1913 is a better counterfeit.
Can you say China , please report these , I probablly could have made a better copy out of some American cheese , at least the color would be better . rzage
Yes, it is pretty sorry. Worst counterfeit I've seen on The Bay in some time. For the sake of education, anyone care to point out telltale signs of counterfeit on the 1911 ? Vess mentioned the stars. I'll go next. The letters in LIBERTY have numerous problems. One is the spacing of RT. Others ? Who wants some of this action ?
Well LIBERTY in general looks jacked up. The letters are uneven, and look like different sizes The designers initials on the front of the coin, look like it has been so worn, or somebody just got a little knife or a sharp edged item, and drew in some chicken scratch. The coin looks like it was made in like 2 seconds, the edges of the coin are very crude, uneven, some places look more raised than others, and this is just one bad counterfeit! Sadly ebay is not going to respond to this quick enough, and somebody will be stuck with this, not knowing it is counterfeit. EDIT: One more thing, some of the letters on the back don't even look incused! WOW! ONE BAD COUNTERFEIT.
I wondered why no one mentioned that before. It looks to me that none of the design or lettering in incused, and shouldn't it be?
I thought so. Oh BTW you need to stop posting pics of those 2.5 eagles you have, you are making me want one, lol. They are very nice BTW.
LOL and Thank You Always nice to get comments on my coins Just looking at those counterfeits, just makes me wonder, what kinda sick 1st grade project this was, and when did it turn south?
