As a collector of commemorative coins, do you keep the original
holder, etc or do you have them graded and slabbed?

    It just depends.
Some coins will drive tremendous premiums at a MS70 grade, vs a MS69 grade, and some won't grade even grade at the 69.
I keep mine in the original holders, because that is how they were given to me.
If it won't grade at 70, or there isn't much of a premium between 69 and 70, then I say keep it in original packaging.

EDIT: If I didn't clarify I was speaking of modern commemoratives

    Welcom to the Fourm!! [IMG]

I have a half-dollar commemorative set and I have them all graded by NGC.
I bought them all on eBay in PF-69UC. I choose to buy graded coin because it is easier to store the coins in my opinion and the coins are problem free. It is usually cheaper to just buy the coin already graded then to buy them raw and get them graded.
Here is an example of a coin I just bought Link

Just do what you want!! But if you want to get the coins graded, I would suggest that you buy them already graded as you will say money in the long run.

Most of the older pre-82 commemoratives have a premium for the original packaging. I would think that at some future date the same will apply to modern commemoratives. Many of the older commemoratives that were sold as sets were broken out, hence their rarity.

I buy them slabbed, therefore no worries.

I have some in the original packaging and some in slabs, but I don't slab those I acquire in the original packaging. Unlike some others, I don't expect modern commems in original packaging to command a large premium because everyone knows what happened to the original commems and far more original packages are around.

The thing that will make them valuable in 50 years will be something we don't know today.

And I was talking about early commemoratives.
