Someone posted a dime that looked like this and they said it was a keeper. Is this a keeper too or is it common on the 1983d penny? For some reason, most of the 1983 pennies seem a little thin on top to me, but this one stood out.
After some searching, it looks likes an example of die adjustment? Too much pressure on the bottom and not enough on the top, which causes that tapered lip along the top to not get pressed down. Sound good or am I making this stuff up as I go
having a hard time standing on my head to see it jerry lol only jokin. I have a few like this and will look at your responses to see if it is common or not. I am just starting to collect and could use all the info i can get. thanks BILL
Now that just goes to show lack of imagination. Myself I just turned my Monitor upside down. :goof::smile
See the big lip along the top that tapers up to the edge? The top of the letters wrap over it. I've seen this on at least 5 of my 1983's so far, so I think it's pretty common. But it's not normal.
I think you will find the ridge at the top through the letters is common on the copper plated zinc cents and is caused by die wear.
