I don't think an acetone bath would hurt, no q-tips though!

God invented Q-tips to get out earwax !

You can't really hurt a circ 21 Morgan.

Whoa, if Acetone puts that much shine on Miss Liberty, then I may never use it! I believe that it qualified as a nice AU-53 coin with quite a bit of Mint Luster left on on it before the Acetone bath but now, I don't know! Next time, I would first just try a hot water bath with no soap and a pat dry in a sift towel.

You ruined anything original on the coin.
I suggest NEVER doing that again.
I mean this is a good experiment and all, good thing it wasn't a key date.

    And P.S.

That acetone bath did nothing for what I thought you wanted to rid of, the waxy ear.
It just made the coin look polished, and really in fact made it uglier in my opinion.

I thought acetone only removes organic matter. That is what the coin looks like under the gunk.

It gave the coin a polished look, most acetone baths don't look like that, do they? I had no idea it would do that to a coin.
The coin looks better in the first set of photos, before being thrown in acetone, just my opinion.

no harm done, even though it looks worse. Maybe lost $1 in value. A 21 is junk unless high mint state.

Yes that might be true, lets just be glad he didn't do this with a key date coin.

    i agree

    :goofer:
Igree it look's to have taken on a polished look but that was my first try at acetone might have left it to long in the bath but not a key date and injoyed the exp:
But waxy ear had to be cleaned

It didn't exactly get rid of the "wax"
It changed color, and made it fade, it didn't get rid of it, as I can still see where it is.
I'd say you can experiment with common dates, but I wouldn't do it with anything rare.

Well it got rid of all the "WAX" this time, and all the other gunk, it makes the coin look cleaner, but un-original, like the before pics.
