I think that depends a lot on what "good" means to you. "Likely to go up in value" (answer: I have no idea)? "Visually interesting" (definitely a matter of personal opinion)? "Good for a small gift" (depends entirely on the taste of the recipient)? For my money, the best low-budget collecting niche is roll-searching; you pay face value for the coins you keep, and pay nothing for those you don't (cash them in or spend them).
Well... I'm just looking for opinions because I'm trying to fund something and if I spend 5 dollars I double my money... anything that you'd enjoy is all I'm asking
Roll hunting is the obvious choice. I was getting a box a week for the past two weeks but the bank called today and said I can't anymore. So, I will be closing my account there tomorrow, just will mention that they don't want my business and that I can go to literally anywhere else and likely get the same thing. Back to the question: individual buffalos, early 1900s IHC, Roosevelt dimes, etc. I got a really nice merc a couple years ago which cost me 4 dollars, and it is my best of that type. 4.00 got me a blast white beauty.
coin hustling isn't easy. Like I've said before, swapping on numista would be a good place for you to start. look for Americans with good reviews, and ask around. Sometimes you have exactly what they'd like, and they have some good coins you'd like for your own collection. When it snows, go door to door and ask for 5-10 bucks to shovel a walkway. Or go to the small locally owned grocery store and ask if he needs help restocking the cigarettes (one of my first jobs) Another good thing you'd be able to do is maybe work in the offices at a pharmacy. I was the office clerk for a year in one when I was only 14, and you get a lot of responsibility from working with social security numbers, PHI, etc.
be patient it took me years to find a silver coin CRH but now I seem to be finding at least one every month.
I probably should've mentioned this... I'm not buying the coins and re-selling them... PayPal has a deal that if I send $.01 and then the person I sent it to, buys something for $5 then we quadruple our money... We're working together on my website and this is how we're funding it for the moment
my best advice is to not purchase a lot of cheapies. I ended up with a lot of cheap world coins worth nearly nothing, and eventually sold a ton when i was 15. learn how to work and save money, then get yourself something real nice. Your first MS morgan maybe?
I wouldn't simply just limit my options to American coins. You'd honestly be quite surprised about what I've found for less than $5 in bulk world coin boxes.
Is this the Paypal "double your money" terms of service loophole from 2014? Because that's fraud. I'm not sure what exactly you're talking about here, but companies like Paypal don't just give money away. I'd be careful if I were you.
I remember the days where the under 1 dollar bin would have world silver coins. Feels like so long ago but it was closer to a decade now I miss being a stupid kiddo in the 2000s, instead of a stupid adult in the 2020s
The last time I found silver in my LCS's foreign coin box was a little over a week ago. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/an-excellent-cherrypick-for-2.374686/
No... They have something on their page that says if you send $.01 to a friend and then they spend $5 PayPal will give both you and your friend $10... I guess if we're working together it's both of our money... If we put it together we just made $14.99
That is not a good way to make money... Gotta read the terms and conditions on stuff like that. There are plenty of better ways to make money. Get a job, flip items on eBay/FB marketplace, tutoring, investing, etc. Also, once you make money, why waste it on a website that you arent going to get a return on investment from? I would stick to CT...
I'm getting tired of CT tbh... If I can get my website to be successful then I won't be on CT other than to check around
True, but so is Collectors Universe. I'm just wondering how you are planning on making money with your website if it actually is successful?
To be honest? I haven't planned that far yet. Right now my goal is to get the website up and running and get at least 5 new members a week... when I get up to 30 members (not hosts or mods) then I'll plan on the money-making
