This looks like doubling on the legs to me plus a strange artifact above/right of Lincoln's head. I'm unable to find anything confirming doubling of this sort for the 2001-D so I really doubt it's doubling, but hoping someone can enlighten me as to possible causes. Thanks in advance! +1 looks like a die chip by Lincoln or it took a hit.

Could it be a minuscule plating blister?

Thanks, and yes, I'd already checked Wexler's (same site - it forwards to your attached address. The dot seems to protrude so a die gouge could be that but the legs intrigue me as much or more than the dot.

Thanks! I use a relatively inexpensive microscope. Don't know the model offhand but it does work pretty well for coin pics. I think I paid $100 to 150 for it several years ago.

I don't see a DDR, but I was leaning towards a blister in the plating or dent in the die perhaps.

It might not be there, but the picture makes it look like there is an extra leg to the left. This greatly resembles many of the known modern ddrs. It's very possible that you have an unlisted ddr since there are so many. But that dot doesn't really match any of Lincoln's features or the columns.

It looks like a plating blister to me. Here is my 2001 D Lincoln error, a strike through on the bust and still in the original mint cellophane packaging. Polish_20201211_212846722.jpg

Now I have to get the mint set out because I see a dot next to lincoln's head on the reverse!

Wow! Coincidence? Does the location seem to be identical?
