I believe both are photographs, with the second just having an unfortunate amount of glare. They're actually the pictures that the seller sent me when I asked for more information. I haven't bothered rephotographing or scanning it yet.

I've always been fascinated by the double sestertii of Postumus myself. I bid on, and lost, a very interesting one with legible undertype of a Faustina II sestertius.

Here's my specimen, with a to-die-for portrait and a rare (only one other known) spelling error on the reverse:
    Postumus
    AE double sestertius
    Cologne ?, 259-268 AD
    IMP C M CASS LAT POSTVMVS P F AVG
laureate, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust r.
    LAETITA, AVG in ex.
    galley right
    RIC - , Bastien - , Cohen -
Note: Similar to RIC 144 or 207
    Ex CNG 52, 119

But that's not my most expensive circulated coin. This is. And I wouldn't trade it for another in EF or better. Worn gold just has a character to it that cannot be replaced:
    Constantius II
    AV – Solidus, 21 mm, 4.05g
    Antioch, 337-361 AD
    FL IVL CONSTAN-TIVS PERP AVG
    draped, cuirassed bust r.
    GLORIA REI-PVBLICAE
Roma and Constantinopolis seated holding hield with VOT/XX/MVLT/XXX
    SMANI in ex.
    RIC VIII Antioch 83

:bigeyes::bigeyes: I though there was nothing that could beat round one. lol I stand corrected. Awesome coin Matt, don't tell me there's a round three that can beat that :D.

Ardatirion, that is indeed a very nice portrait on that Postumus there. Congratulations on that. That solidus is also beautiful, and I agree with you on the wear giving it character. I wish I could afford something like that, but I have a feeling that it's a tad outside of the $30 limit per coin that I decided on in order to not blow too much of my money on this hobby. Sigh.

In terms of value - not the most, expensive, but kinda close and a favorite. In terms of cost.... well - I am that lucky son of a gun here - I picked this beaut up for $.03  yep, three cents :D

This is a great thread. Coin collectors love to show their best, and other collectors love to see them!

I have to say i am absolutely impressed by the 1796 half dollar posted by the Dutchman.
That is an incredible coin, very appealing and in nice condition. If I knew how to add a smiley (the one with the dropping jaw in amazement) i would!
