OK , The best answer your gonna git is " Only the Lord Knows" . This Coin is Badly Damaged to the point of no return.
Buddy.. Just because a coin looks strange, weird, different or crazy does not automatically make it a Mint Error. There are plenty of coins with circulation damage and alterations. Your Cent is DEFDAM - Definitely Damaged Not a Mint Error of any kind. The plating was worn away somehow exposing the inner zinc. Welcome to CoinTalk
@Randy5555 welcome to CT. That is one interesting coin and certainly a keeper in my book. As already mentioned, it is PMD, Post Mint Damage, and not an error, but how it got that way will probably remain a mystery, unless you can track down the person that did it. LOL Good luck in your future hunts.
I HAVE FOUND 2 OF THESE AFTER GOING THROUGH $125.00 WORTH OF PENNIES FROM THE SAME BANK THEY WERE IN LOOMIS ROLLS..THANK YOU FOR YOUR THOUGHTS.. i JUST DONT SEE ANYONE DOING SOMEHTING LIKE THIS AT HOME IT WOULD TAKE HOURS I WOULD THINK..I'M NOT GUITE SURE.. THEY ARE PRETTY COOL! THANK RANDY
Hours? No.. Try a few seconds. There's no way this could of occured during the minting process. Not a mint error of any kind.
You heard wrong then.. That's sad You should ask them how that occurred during the minting process?.. There needs to be an explanation.
@Randy5555, using all caps is like yelling at someone, so please try not to do that. It would also benefit you to proofread your post before posting it. As already posted, your cent is PMD and the fact that you found two, just indicates that the party that damaged the coin(s) was bored and did it more than once. Why? Who knows. In my opinion, it isn't even worth one cent now, but it would probably be accepted some places. Good luck on your hunt.
