Well I know I want this one! haha, but if you guys didn't already know Im big on PCGS...so the whole NGC is a turnoff for me, but I still love that coin, heres what I need:
    1. Max Bid (Opinions, in the range of a good deal)
    2. Do you like this coins eye appeal?
    3. Would this Toneing grade in PCGS (at the same standard) assuming I send to to them...just saying)
    4. Overal Opinion of the coin! THANKS!

(Right now I just put a low bid on it so its on the top of my eBay page)

I can answer #2, and say I like the toning a lot, it's definitely a beautiful coin

    Goldstone,

Are you a serious bidder on this coin?

    1. You aren't going to get a good deal on this coin, it will go for a premium. At a minimum $800, my guess is a little over $1,000.
    2. Do I like it, you have to be kidding, I absolutely love it.
    3. The toning has no impact on the grade. Although it is is nice color, it is not in the range that would cause the coin to be bumped via market grading. I see no problem with the assigned grade and think it would cross into a PCGS holder.
    4. On a scale of 1 to 10. ELEVEN!

I like it. I will caution though that it is not a true FH in my opinion - the weakness on the shield and rivets discounts it in my book.

I am a serious bidder on this one, have been saving for months for a nice coin (Truly me, who is incredibly patient have been saving) I will watch/bid on the coin as long as I can if it hits the 800's though I wont be able to justify spending that much on a coin to my parents so at that point I would be out! Im winning now lol...not for long

I think it meets the requirement for FH. Having said that, the FH designation does not mean the the overall quality of the strike is strong.

I'm not as familiar with the SLQ as I am with my series, the Franklin. This is one of the drawbacks of the strike designations, and I have talked about it many times. There is one small detail that is looked at, but the rest of the coin is ignored. Liberty might have an ear, but her shield might look like this piece (which is far more of a focal point, and should be required to have a much stronger strike than her ear, in my opinion). On the Franklin, the bell lines might be present, but I also look for the wisps of hair over his ear, and Pass and Stow, to be clearly present. When the entire coin is struck well - then it is is worth a significant premium to me. When just one tiny little bit is well struck but the rest of the coin is weak, thats for the lemmings.

Which is why I took care to qualify my statements with "in my opinion."

It looks like a FH to me.
I am pretty sure in the FH designation it has to have 3 olive leafs. The coin has them, and looks FH.
The toning is absolutely gorgeous! Great eye appeal!
And don't worry about your parents, tell them you bought what you liked, and what you've been saving up for. Tell them they need to understand you can't get high quality coins for $10, no, once you get into MS65 FH Toned SLQ's, then we are talking big bucks.. :D
PCGS has it at $850, and I don't know what numismedia has it at.
I assume this coin will go in excess of $900. Goldstone, if you are serious about this coin... Then by all means get it... (I think Lehigh is looking to buy...) LOL!

That is why I asked if you are serious about bidding. If you plan to bid $900+, I will stay out of your way, but please don't think you are going to win this coin with a lowball bid. It will never happen. The eye appeal of this SLQ is off the charts as is the quality of the photograph. This coin will go for a premium to the price guides, I promise you that.

Please let me know when you are done bidding on this coin. If you bow out at any point, I would like to have the opportunity to step in. Thanks!

Goldstone- you probably shouldn't have brought it here if you really wanted it. Paul probably knew about it cause he has toning tenicles in the whole numismatic community. I think he has toning spies in every city. Eventually he will own even toned coin in the world. It's a NEW WORLD ORDER, I mean COIN ORDER :loud::D :computer::hammer::hammer::hatch::confused::goof::eek::high5:

Eye of the beholder and all that - but I think that coin is an ugly as sin ! I wouldn't bid on it if it was the last coin I needed for my entire collection and it stayed under $100.

FWIW - I'd pass on that coin for that kind of money. I think the strike could be better.

    1. For me, $800-850.
    2. No, but I don't care for toned coins, particularly blotchy toning.
    3. IMO, yes it would grade. Same standard, don't know.
    4. IMO, FH is marginal. Shield (rivets, etc.) are weak. I wouldn't want it if I were looking for a high end SLQ.

Actually. I think by posting here you limit the people who would normally bid. I know that once I see something here I stay out of the way of the person who posted the link.

A nicely toned 1928-S SLQ. Definitely meets the assigned grade. However, I would caution anyone jumping in with a bid of $900.00 on this specimen. Don't be fooled by your enthusiasm. If this coin were justified in bringing a suggested price realized of say $1000.00, why offer it on an EBAY auction as opposed to one of the more reputable auction sites, which attracts a more astute bidder audience? I would suggest a fair bid is in the neighborhood of $7-800, which is a premium of say 2-$300.00 for a "toning" enthusiast. I'd have no problem jumping in at that line, but no further. Good luck to any CT bidders. BTW it is a low end SLQ.
