I appreciate the advice about the books.I guess I should clarify that I was posting that my son is the new collector. I'm fairly new on this board and I do have my own Lincoln collection thats about 95% complete and I do have the book you mentioned.I was just happy that now me and him have something else to do together.

I would go to your local coin dealer and get a handful of wheats (don't pay more than $0.08 from the dealer bin) and he would probably have a lot of fun looking through them!
thats a great start. wheaties are what got me started, great way to go. your son would have a blast going through a bag of mixed wheaties. cheap too

Also do roll searching , cheaper than e b -- and more thrilling , for the unkown what might be in that roll ? Maybe a indian cent. do not forget the pocket change they do show up every now and then. By the way it is great you and your son working together.' im now 51 anf my dad is 92 , but at the time it was not coins , it was building muscle cards and street rods. Presently his mind his good and we talk and laugh about being together THERE IS NO BETTER FEELING THAN THAT by the way welcome to the forumn :thumb:

Don't know if there are any in your area but you might want to check Google for coin shows in your area. And if you live near a state line, try the other state also. Just go to take him to a coin show. Another thing is to check out the Walmart Web site for books. They usually sell for a lot less than almost anyone on the internet. If your son is into computers also try www.coppercoins.com And the person that has that web site has two books out on just Lincoln Cents and you can usually buy coins and books there also. Not sure if you have any flea markets in your area but around here there are always coin dealers at our flea markets and no where on Earth can prices be better than what I've found at flea markets and garage/yard/estate sales. I guess lots of people start with those Steel Cents. One dealer at a local flea market told me he sells lots and lots of them every week. Usually he wants $0.25 for almost Uncirc ones. He tried for $0.50 but no takers. He usually has hundreds of the well shot looking ones for about a dime. Less if you buy lots of them.
