I used to dislike Sacajawea dollars... but then I looked at the bag of them I had and they had started to tone - so I have a new appreciation for them now. There are two coins that I like, but HATE under certain circumstances. Saint-Guadens 20$ gold and Morgan Dollar. Nice coins to be sure. but during large Coin Shows... no way.
Travis, One day you will come out of the closet and admit your undying love for the Jefferson Nickel. In fact, I might have to send you one for XMAS. My most hated series is anything Seated Liberty. I abhor that design.
Lehigh I was just waiting until you saw my post... Yours are nice, but I still hate them... Sending me one for christmas, I'm down with that, send me a graded one to put in my type set... LOL!!!! :hammer: Now the Seated Liberty Design, that is just Pure Beauty... I love that design... (I mean I hate it, that way You can send me one for XMAS) LOL! Just goofing with you Paul (But I still hate them)
I think people have posted interesting opinion most I agree with. I think the IKE's and SBA's are the ugliest. The clad devaluation of money bothers me the most. Give me a pre64 silver coin worn or not verses a modern debased coin (except the nickel has never been debased yet) and I will pick a 90% silver coin all day. I like Clembos point. Some coins were not made intelligently like the Buffalos and SLQ's re: high relief dates.
So very odd Paul. I love anything from the art deco years, especially the Standing Libs...., Mercs, Walkers It was just recently I fell in love with those Jeffs. A few hours with a loupe and a set of BU Jeffys has really changed my mind. I am even considering trying to go " full step" with it. Color Jeffs turn me on now and for years I found them boring Coins are a sickness, lol
As I understand it, darkside usually means European coins, but I think all foreign coins may fall into this subgroup. I include Canadian when I mention darkside just because I don;t know better.
Hate none, least liked would be the SBAs. Disappointed in the new Lincoln reverse. Sad by the inability to remove dead presidents from coins.
The reason I really hate the SBA's is that they have actually cost me money (when I used them as quarters)
The new native american dollar there is a jarring discordance in style between the obverse and reverse design, and what is with that weird font they used on the reverse. It looks like they just threw it together. UGLY.
Why is every one hatin' on the old Sac's (2000-2008)..they, IMO, are by far the most beautiful coin for modern (bussiness strikes anyways) stainless
Oddly, I find myself in tune with the group this time. SBAs and Ikes would make my list of least favored series.
I agree with all of that. I don't hate any of them. But I really don't like Barbers. Liberty looks like a dude.
I would have to say that several of the modern gold commems are really ugly! I'd not want to pay even melt for most of them.
Here's an answer from a different point of view: not my own preferences but observations of others. The coins in history which have actually inspired HATRED seem to be those with a political message, express or implied. During the English Civil War, the King's coinage had his six-word slogan on the reverse, in Latin naturally; Parliament's coinage had inscriptions in English, to emphasize how non-Catholic it was. The King's supporters called Parliament's coinage "breeches money"--this was not intended to be polite. Did the same happen in the War Between the States? At a lower level of emotion, most all coins less than three-quarters of an inch in diameter have in their time inspired ANNOYANCE at being too small for practical use. The US dime--and its UK equivalent the 5 pence piece--are just about on the irritability boundary. Later, John
