The PRESIDENTIAL DOLLARS!!!! The design is horrible. I also REALLY hate how they put the date on the edge of the coin.
Many of the modern "made for collectors" coins don't do much for me. Bullion coins don't do much for me. I never really liked half dimes other than the 1792. But I don't "hate" any of them -- just don't collect them.
Thats a tough one, Stain. I don't think I really "hate" any particular series of coin. I will say the coin design I dislike the most has to be the Barber design. I still like to collect them for the challenge, but I do dislike the drab design, even more so than the SBA. Guy~
The proposed 2010 Lincoln reverse. I don't think they could have come up with a more boring, unimaginative design than that!!
The ASE set...proof and uncirculated and The statehood quarters. Now dont get me wrong, I have complete collections of the UNC ASE and the complete state series, but i just dont' like them....collecting them is only because it completes my sets. I do like the idea of the prez's some work coulda been done oin them, but I like the premise....the Forgotten President Collection? lol
If I had to choose I'm going to say I dislike the SBA. I know what they were trying to do, I think, but it stands out as an example of what a bureauracy can accomplish when they really focus. :rolling:
The Jefferson Nickels, they are very ugly, and they bring out my tough guy persona. Now some examples are nice, (Lehigh's For Instance) but I wouldn't ever start a set or anything, the only one I will ever buy will be for my type set. They are still ugly. I also hate the Presidential Dollars, The Territory Quarters, The Kennedy Half, The Susan B Anthony Dollar, and in the future, I will hate the park state quarters as well.
Can I say everything after 1964? I would say everything that replaced the Renaissance series as well, but I do like the Franklin. And I hate all dimes, even the early ones. Don't know why, I just do.
Can't say I "hate" any coin series. There are many I don't care for and don't collect for that reason but hate is a strong word. Never liked Susan B dollars. Let's face it. A dollar the size of a quarter and she wasn't exactly a babe. I own several that I bought cheap on impulse. Sacagaweas. Another "garbage" dollar coin to me as well. Nice enough looking coin and I own a few but just not real functional IMHO as goes with the Presidential dollars. Practically any "modern" coin and even the ones that have been in circulation as far back as 1909 don't do a great deal for me. Still I have thousands of them so I guess I don't "hate" them. How about a few surprises from me? How about Buffalo Nickels and Standing Liberty Quarters. Odd wouldn't most of you think? Here's what I "hate" about them. Many, including myself, would put these as two of the most BEAUTIFUL coins this country has produced. My problem? Why weren't the design flaws fixed earlier if at all? In the past week I have gone through literally thousands of Buffalos to separate them into full, parial and no date examples. I managed to put together a group of 2000 full dates for the boss to sell to another dealer, at least 1000 partial dates and about the same in no dates. The series ran for 25 years and it was never corrected. I also bought 7 common date high end AUs while I was at it. Standing Liberties? Same thing. A stunning coin in BU for sure. I recently went through several hundred in a large hoard. OVER half had no dates. Strong mintmarks and often F12 detail but NO dates. They fixed that glitch in 1925 yet I wonder what the dates WERE on some that I looked through. I put several 1917-S Type I in 2x2s. I only knew what they were by the mintmark and reverse. Date was long gone. I bought two 1927-D today. I don't like dimes in general. Too dang small for my vision. I have over a thousand but mainly for the silver. Now give me a nice half dime or a 3 Cent Silver and I love em. Smaller but cooler. I've rambled enough but the point is I think most of here tend to like coins in general. Just some more than others. Everyone has their reasons and if you live for Susan Bs more power to you. All coins are good in some aspect.
Don't hate any, but at the top of my list of just don't like em is the Susan Bs. Don't like the design, too much like a quarter, etc.
I think to truly qualify as a hated coin you would have to actually deface any examples you found, but the one I run into and think is a real dog are the new Jefferson nickles, the 2005 portrait was actually pretty well done, the new ones could be improved by contracting with any Jr. High school art department to do a redesign. I do not hate them enough to scrawl an x across the ones I pick up, it makes one wonder is the designer some muckity mucks close relative?
presidential dollars, they will never seem to end, it will be a chore to see them all through, too much commitment to a program of coinage and not enough symbolism, expression and statement in our coinage.
My body did not come equipted with a hate bone, but there are several I dislike. Ikes, SBA's, Prez dollars, Kennedys, Franklins, Roosys, Washingtons. Mainly boring designs I guess. Some I do not even dislike, they just do not interest me. I would have added Jeffersons to that list but since buying a cpl gem sets, I have really changed my mind. They CAN be beautiful with some color and steps. Most of my " collection " these days have been darkside coins due to the artwork and value they represent.
Yeah, and I would say all 1,000 if my lunch didn't start coming up after I saw that coin... BLEH...BLEH...BLE-EHHHHHH!
