Hello all, I haven’t made any posts in a while as I got back to working and my buying and selling slowed down to some extent. I purchased this coin not to long ago and upon receiving it before I even removed it from the sleeve I could feel every line and detail of this coin which almost put me into a state of shock. I got home and started to look and for what I paid which I blame the sellers pictures made me wonder if this thing was even real. I weighed it, checked for the silver ring carefully, compared it to pictures of graded coins from PCGS. Everything pans out but I’m still quite shocked. I wanted to share this with you guys and get your more expert opinions on this. The only thing I can see wrong with it is along with rim there’s some flattening or wear that I will add in the pictures. Also you can see a thumbprint on the obverse I’m not sure if this is from cleaning or being handled incorrectly at some point, it doesn’t show can my thing looking from being cleaned with a brush because their are no hairlines but being dipped in the past, I’m not sure. Do you guys think this coin would pass being graded or no? Thank you all and hope everyone’s doing good.
Hey Man. I like this Coin but the Reverse is better than the Obverse. The Obverse has tiny scratches and I wonder about it not being cleaned . I believe it would grade AU at best but like I said the reverse is MS -no problem .How Much my friend ??
I feel like it may have gone through some process of cleaning in the past but long enough to re tone but I’m really not sure.
Visible lines are sparse, and appear unidirectional only because of the lighting angle. There are plenty more tiny marks running in other directions. This coin looks like a pleasing, unadulterated AU58.
I would give it an mid AU grade ,plenty of detail ,and the color acceptable to my eye. The coin surfaces dont look cleaned at all. Glad to see members who "know what they are posting " giving the op the "correct" advice. Nice specimen. Like the precud at 11k...
Is that a RIM CUD I see between the "IN GOD W" on the obverse? Nice coin. Maybe an old light cleaning or slight mishandling.
A very handsome coin to me...don't think the fingerprint or anything of hairlines should in an way prevent a grade (*if either does, either shouldn't). Since they don't grade each side anymore, think it's an overall AU58. *For another post, but think the TPGs have become too nit-picky with stuff like this, essentially body-bagging ("details" slabbing) too many otherwise nice coins. When you can crack a "details" coin out of one big TPG, re-submit it raw to the other big TPG and get a grade back...several coins, actually...something in the process needs an adjustment. Sorry for getting away from the coin, here, but this one should pass. Hope I didn't violate any posting rules.
That would be worth an overnight soak in acetone. Probably won't do anything, but it might help and won't hurt.
Thank you for everyone replies, I appreciate everyone perspective on this! Especially the honesty. Yes the reverse seems to be struck very nicely, same with the obverse but not as strong. As I do sell coins and buy them, not as much as I used to. I’m debating on getting it graded and ready for the right owner or holding on to it. I keep finding myself going and looking at it a few times a day. Thank you again, you all are awesome!
Nice coin and great pictures. the fingerprint is so minor that i don't think graders will deduct much. the scratches, yes there gonna get you there. really nice coin overall. AU-55. good luck brother
Thank you very much! I almost want to get it graded just to see what it would come out to be, thanks again!
