thank you all. this has been one of the large sized notes i wanted to pick up this year. the other was the one i posted the other night
Nice note...But Grover Cleveland was a draft dodger in the Civil War. Paid for someone to go in his place. Traci
He wasn't a "draft dodger" in the modern sense. There was a law passed in 1863 that allowed the draft and those drafted could hire a substitute to take their place. It was perfectly legal. Plus, what difference does it make. It's a beautiful note...who cares what choices the President depicted on it made during his life (and before his Presidency).
I agree, for me, the history of the person on the note is very important, however, its important from a learning perspective. I wouldnt NOT buy the note because of an event that happened during his lifetime. I have notes with Saddam Hussein or Hitler, a couple of the biggest ... err.. bad guys!... in history. Hows that old saying go ... those who forget history are condemmed to repeat it?? or somethign similar lol
Is that supposed to make a difference to someone? Anyone? Besides, as others have said, he wasn't a draft dodger...what he did was perfectly legal at the time. btw: Great note! I still need to find one for me like that!
