Hello everyone, I was wanting to research some of the coins that I may purchase in the future a bit more in-depth. Is there perhaps an electronic e-book for the Redbook on coin values? V/R Rob
Rob: welcome to the frum. And, no, the Guide Book (aka: Red book) is not available in electronic format. That is why old copies of the book are so valuable, as a research tool. Good Luck. Danr: That is because they wiat for the mint to finish counting! Oftentimes the mint changes their totals, long after the year is over.
I much prefer my RB in PAPER format (there is no electronic). I can look up info much faster than electronic format anyway.....long live PAPER!
v8n, Google NGC. Numismatic Guaranty Corporation's website offers a free, price guide that is updated once in a while based on selling statistics. You do have to create an account. It's a pretty decent up to date price guide. Although I think many coins are somewhat depressed right now because of the economy. I've seen many MS66 coins going for MS65 money across several types on ebay. You can use advanced search on ebay as well. It's a clickable link next to the normal search bar. When the page comes up, enter what you're searching for and check "Completed auctions" box. Then search. It will bring up a list of recently ended auctions over the past month. I think it's very informative and about as up to date as you can get for what people are paying. I think most people will check ebay at some point if they are looking for something. It's almost a given. Even people who don't like them.
Okay gals and guys. I would like reccommendations on what is the next book I should get on US COINS after Red Book. Thanks.
There a number of good books on a variety of subjects. For example, if you are looking for background on US coins and minting I would recommend The US Mint and Coinage by Don Taxay. Tell us what series of coins you are most interested in and someone will be able to provide recommendations.

No, not an online redbook, but you can't just do everything by what the redbook says, everything in there, gets outdated very quickly, which is why you need to pay attention to what coins are going for. Use heritage online auction archives, (You have to create an account, it is free) and use ebay's completed listings, this will show you the prices realized for items of which you are searching. There are two more price guides that are free that you can use, numismedia's price guide, and PCGS price guide, the PCGS price guide is supposed to be used for PCGS coins, and the numismedia price guide's prices are a little less than PCGS's price guide, but are more accurate to what coins sell for. Here are links: http://www.numismedia.com/fmv/fmv.shtml http://www.pcgs.com/prices/
The prices in the Redbook are not great as price guides go since they are only printed once per year. If you are looking for an online price guide, I suggest Numismedia. They used to charge for access to the MS grades, but now they are free. http://numismedia.com/ This is the same price guide that Heritage lists in all their auctions along with the PCGS price guide which you must pay for.
I just wanted to let everyone know thank you for all the support. There are tons of information in this thread, so thank you again!
