Well, it's more than the first couple coins...but when the annual mintage production is 1000 or less (usually), there really aren't many of either.

There are 1356 cameos and an additional 176 ultra cameos (compared to 5441 non-cameos) for the Proof Morgan Dollar series listed on the NGC Census report. And there are 914 cameos and 139 deep cameos (compared to 6422 non-cameos) on the PCGS population report. And there are, no doubt, more cameos still in non-cameo holders, which were graded before the grading companies started using that designation. Cameos aren't really all that rare on a relative basis.

I know how to turn an ms70 into a proof 70. But I would never sell such a thing. Traci

Not one that would fool anyone with even a fair amount of knowledge.

That is probably more accurate to what I was thinking ... as to losing my head yeah this week would be a good discription of the week I had.

Yes, on a relative basis. But, since proof Morgan's are rare to begin with. According to NGC's registry, there are 1532 cameo or ultra cameo out of the 6973 total graded coins. That means that less than 22% are cameo. That is probably about accurate...roughly 1/5 of the already very rare proofs are cameo. That makes cameo examples very rare.

I agree that they are out there and can be found, but they are certainly a rare coin and considerably rarer than their non-cameo counterpart.
