1941-d This Walker just walked in the door... Not so 'worn' per this thread, but a new arrival! 1941-D pd. $13. Shot with cool indirect natural light. Noticeable bag marks(?), some luster and an ever so subtle yellow-toning visible in person. The hand isn't worn, has most fine lines and feathers. Maybe an AU58? Whatchathink?
They may be bag marks. They're random enough and mostly on the high points or in the field. But too many of them. If the coin has any wear I think it'll be more like AU-50. And the hand that the book talks about is the one holding the olive branches (by the hip). It essentially doesn't exist on your coin, mostly likely because of a weak strike. Hopefully someone in here has a fully struck one, maybe even a proof. I just looked at my best ones and they don't seem to have a full hand.
You guys are right. I was wishing for more =) but still love it at 50 or less. Thanks for the feedback. This has been a great thread with lots of humor as well as walker appreciation.
I was looking at slabbed Walkers for full hands at a coin show back in February. Its just not something you see alot, even on coins with grades like MS65, etc.
I've got a couple slabbed 65's and there's more hand definition on them, but they're certainly not full. That's why I was asking if anyone had a proof Walker. I figure they would be full.
Well, that may depend on your definition of full. I got a chance recently to hold a proof Walker worth thousands of dollars. The detail was pretty sharp. But not like you see on the same design when applied to the Silver Eagle design. And I think that is a mistake that alot of people, especially beginners, make. They expect an UNC Walker to look the same on the obverse as a Silver Eagle. And thats just not going to happen.
Very nice! Thanks for the detail shot too. What causes that dark line down the length of Liberty? (or what looks to be a dark line? may just be the lighting I'm seeing.)
It appears to be something it rubbed against. Do you think a microfiber clothe could be used to see if can be removed? I also noticed some raised stuff (for lack of a better term) on the right side of the sun rays. Looks like the die may have some rust spots.
Finally I get to contribute After being separated from this coin for a few months, I got it back I sold it for some quick cash, and bought it back (This is the advantage of selling to a close friend, it kinda stays in the family!) Thanks to my friend, this baby is back in the family
